South Africa were at home when they beat Australia 3-2, away their records are not so good, they could not even make the VB series final in Australia. So seeing as the World Cup is in West Indies I don't think South Africa are going to perform well there as they have done at home.

Rifat, the west indies pitches are not a bowlers paradise any more, infact nowadays the pitches in carribean looks much similar like pakistan or any sub continent one for that instance
considering south africa's record in slow low turning pitches(and also in west indies) one could easily see them among the top 3 contenders for the title in west indies
even in away series like tours to india, srilanka and pakistan in the last 2 years they did pretty well with a much younger and in experienced side
now they have got a world class pace bowler in the form of ntini
they also got an intimidating bowler (especially in looks and manerism) in the form of andre nel
there reverse swing expert charl langeveldt will be ready for the world cup 2007
the left spinner nicky boje is also a quite ahandy batsmen
there batting is also not a weak one
even though they are quite a inexperienced ones
they got a fiersome hitter in Justin kemp
and greame smith can also be a quite devastating opener
as a team they are gelling better now
so its more possible for south africa to cause an upset by qualifying for the finals(or) even winning the world cup
i still believe they are the number 3 team (other than india and pakistan) for the australia's throne in one day form of the game

Many people fancy South Africa, but if you ask me, they are too over-rated. Brazil for example in the Football World Cup, best squad in the tournement, knocked out by an ageing squad of France. South Africa is more the same, they have some of the best players in the world on their side, but I believe they will be knocked out by the ageing squad of Australia.

I Quite Fancy New Zealand to win, they have a good bowling attack and a reasonable Batting line-up. Plus, they have been on form and they have a competent coach. So New Zealand will (I Predict) Play 2 exeptional games in the Quarter-finals and the Semi-finals, where they outclass there opponents and win the match with overs to spare or by 50+ runs and then they will win a tense final against Australia (I don't know how the format of the draw will go)

If someone does find out how the tournement will be run, could they post it here (I mean as in which winner from each group will play which runner up from eachgroup in the Quarter-finals)

I think West Indian grounds are perhaps the smallest of them all in top cricket playing countries, which means lots and lots of runs specially for the side batting first that will automatically put psycological presure to the side batting second chasing a huge total. This is exactly where Indian power packed batting line can nudge things away from any other team.
To me an India Pakistan final will be an ideal one, and Pakistan winning out of it, will be an even better one.

Exclamation You're rite!!!

I do think that West Indies stands quite a chance, not only because well they are preparing hard but in the recent ODI series they actually steam-rolled India with a 4-1 victory in which they actually won one of their matches by 1 run.

yes windies are better than what they were 2 years ago ,but still, after watching their game agaisnt lankans today at mumbai i feel they may not have consistently good show with their bat agaisnt some of the world calss bowlers/teams they will be facing in world cup
but i won't be surprised if windies do get the chance to play semi's or even the finals
lankans are fastly improving compared to other teams

Australia again.

The windies did not go to well against Aust once we got ourselves into gear, but with Gayle & Lara getting g'ed upped from the crowd they have a good chance.
South Africa will never beat Aust when it really counts.
India havn't got the bowlers.
Pakistan,Sri Lanka are over rated.
England havn't got a clue.
N.Z. run us close but nearly always lose.
The rest are just making up the numbers.

P.S. Would like Zimbabwe to do good.

Englands group looks interesting. Kiwi's will finish ontop, but Kenya and Canada weren't roll-overs in the last WC, so England will have their work cut out for that second position.
