I find that Waqar Younis is very bias towards pakistan, he is always saying how good they are, and not really complimenting the other team

Out of the list i went for Richie, I agree that he does only tend to focus on Eng/Aus but then I think that comes about from the era the commentator played in. I like Rameez Raja too but only get to hear him occasionally, one of my favourite commentators from asia is the bloke who's name i can never ever remember for some reason, something Sidhu i think, Navjot Sidhu springs to mind but i've probably just insulted him (sorry), some of the bizarre sayings he comes up with are comedy goldmine, he's the indian equivalant of blowers I think Blowers is fantastic, I know he rarely talks about the cricket and is as mad as a box of bicycles but he brings amusement to an otherwise stuffy environment.

As far as insightful goes, i don't really think many of them are, they all use the same phrases and descriptions for the most part. I like to hear Boycott's opinion on things, even if i don't always agree i at least believe he's thought about it, whereas someone like Agnew i think just says the easiest thing that springs to mind, always comes across to me as a bitter ex-player like Willis and for different reasons, Botham.

Manjrekar is good but not quite in Benaud's league yet.Waqar is too biased,Rameez Raja is far better and more reasoned in his statements.Bumble is a bit of a buffoon but is entertaining,he reminds me of Johnners in the fact that it is serious but not too serious and you should have fun at the same time.

Ian Smith is a good one too, missing off the list.

You are right, he is a South Asian equivalent of Benaud (sorry OF)!

You are right VF, I wasn't apportioning blame, only pointing out that Richie is ill-suited to commentating when it is not England v Australia; he is far too one-sided. His comments during the Aus v WI series were far from ideal; he even went as far as to imply that Pakistan's victory in the first Test at Multan was due to reverse-swing obtained by cheating; something like "if the exshellent English boys couldn't do it, and the very ordinary Pakishtanis could, musht be shome shtrange goings on, eh", all with a nudge and a wink. Now that of course is absolute tripe for a number of reasons, the most significant being that Pakistan actually did not get any more reverse swing than England in the Multan Test - so not only can he be a biased old fart at times, he can be an ill-informed and ignorant biased old fart too! Similarly, his comments about the "dooshra" bowled by the likes of Murali, Harbhajan and Saqlain are ill-informed - whereas every pie thrown by Warne is praised to kingdom come, even genuinely ingenious efforts by South Asian off-spinners are derided. So no, Richie is not the doyen of commentators of me; merely the broadcasting version of "The Sun's" cricket coverage! Give me TMS any day of the week.

It is Navjot Singh Sidhu VF, you are right. And he is easily the funniest guy since Blowers, I am sure someone could post here a collection of Siddhuisms, there are quite a few on the net.

aah well, Boycott is a different class to everyone else VF, that's why I did not even mention him - surely it is obvious that he operates on a different level of commentary and insightfulness to the likes of Ramiz, CMJ, Aggers, etc; whilst others merely summarise, he opines, and often comes up with the things which are not so obvious. A sort of pre-TV Simon Hughes Of the commentators, the only one who comes close to Boycott in actually getting off the fence and saying something interesting is Atherton, IMHO.

Richie Benaud is the voice of cricket. He is insitive in the game and will be sorely missed, well heard bythe british public and the rest of the world for english tests.

I think I've posted some of these before, but the ones I remember are:

(About Nasser Hussain's captaincy) 'He's always thinking, always on his toes ... like a midget at the urinals, always on his toes'.

'In India, we say that statistics are very much like a mini-skirt. What they reveal is interesting. What they conceal ... is vital'.
