Benaud, no contest. Lloyd second and Younis third, I've enjoyed Younis' commentary in the Pakistan-England series.

I voted for others simply because i think Najot Singh Sidhu is great entertainment when watching cricket, he can make the boring ODI middle overs very entertaining. He may mnot have the knowledge of the game like Benaud but some of his "Sidhuism" are just hilarious!

Here are some i found on the net:

In the midst of a verbal duel with Martin Crowe: "Wickets are like wives - you never know which way they will turn! "

Commenting on Ganguly after he was out for a low score in the 2nd Test against Zimbabwe: "..Looks like a brooding hen over a china egg"

In the midst of a verbal duel with Tony Greig: "If ifs and buts were pots and pans, there would be no tinkers!"

When Ganguly took a catch that had gone very high in the air: "That ball went so high it could have got an air hostess down with it !!"

"Statistics are like miniskirts, they reveal more than what they hide."

In India's last match against New Zealand: "New Zealanders are like bicycles in a cycle stand - one falls down and the complete row will be down!

"Sri Lankan score is running like an Indian taxi meter."

"Taking the cake with a red cherry on top. "

For Sri Lankan batsman Kaluwitharna, when he was wasting many balls: "He is like Indian three-wheeler which will suck a lot of diesel but cannot go beyond 30! "

To Martin Crowe: "The Indians are going to beat the Kiwis! Let me tell you, my friend, that the Kiwi is the only bird in the whole world which does not have wings!"

Muralitharan bowling to the last Indian pair: "The wily fox is back. Its an ill omen when a fox licks its lambs."

Applauding Reetinder Singh Sodhi's fighting spirit: "Young Ricky will fight a rattlesnake and give him the first two bites! "

"The gap between bat and pad is so much that I would have driven a car through it... !! "

I'd probably pick CMJ or Aggers - but then this poll seems to be about TV commentators despite its name. In that case I'd probably pick Benaud.

I don't much care for Blofeld; amusing at times but rather annoying as well. Bob Willis is good for a laugh sometimes, simply because he's often so pessimistic about England's chances in any game at any time.

Radio commentary is miles better then the trash we're subjected to on TV. TMS is a preference for a lot of the regulars here, but I speak of the radio commentary locally in Pakistan. Hasan Jalil , Chisty Mujahid and co. are like demi gods compared to Beefy, Paul Allot and Waqar Younis et all. In fact, there are only a handful of good TV commentators out there, all the rest are either suffering from 'East or West My Side Is The Best Syndrome' or can't say anything positive to speak of. Others just speak too much, and the remaining only have a total of half a dozen words to describe every possible incident in the game of cricket: good, bad, positive, negative, beautiful, poor. All others words are seemingly banned, and so is any insightful thought. As is just about everything that adds value to the broadcast.

And as a rough guide, the longer a commentators career has been, and the more successful he has been, the bigger is his ego, the more reluctant he is to accept he was wrong, and the more irritating he is to listen to. Remarkably these highly successful ex-test cricketers are usually the most ill-informed ones too. It's all the producers' fault I tell you, all their fault. How else can one explain Simon Hughes being unemployed and Bob Willis off all people having a safe and secure contract?

I guess it's down to the horses they backed: Hughes was with Channel 4; Willis is with Sky. I'd always have backed Sky to win the coverage in a two horse race, purely because they have such deep pockets. Simon Hughes, I'm afraid, backed the wrong horse. (I believe, though I am not sure, that Hughes has expressed an interest in taking on a broader sports-related position with a broadcaster somewhere, possibly India, rather than staying with cricket in the UK and joining Sky. Can anyone else back me up on this? I seem to recall him saying something about this in an interview on the BBC World Service Sportsworld programme about six weekends ago.)

If that's true then that's brilliant news. I love Simon Hughes's role as the Analyst. And he would be a like a breath of fresh air in the Ten Sports team.

I always liked Boycott. Sidhu is good for fun but he sometimes goes overboard and forgets that there is a game to talk about. Ramiz is a little too concerned with Pakistan like Aamir Sohail. Sanjay Manjrekar is very good and balanced. Ravi Shashtri is another good commentator. I like Michael Holding also.

Commentators like Richie Benaud are too boring to listen.

I prefer listening to Tony Greig and Bill Lawry.

Their commentating is outstanding and and better to listen.
