India wishes to boycott the proposed ICC Twenty/20 World Championship

India have sort for the support of other Asian cricket playing nation to boycott a ICC Twenty/20 Championship, Pakistan's chairman Shaharyar Khan has already come out and said that Pakistan are not enthusiastic on playing a part of the Championship and will support India in an ICC meeting next month.

The reason behind the boycott according to the BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah is that the Twenty/20 form of the game is not played in Asian and is not needed, due to one day cricket being very popular.

India are also seeking the support of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

It's their opinion and you have to respect that. Their ODI scence is immensely popular and I'm sure they wouldn't want to do anything to hinder that. If they had the MCG in India I'm sure they would fill it every ODI they played.

Eden Gardens in Calcutta can accomodate more spectators than the MCG. This is the ground where Australia won the World Cup in 1987.

Edan Garden has more people in it but apparently the MCG could hold more if they packed the people in there like they do in Edan Garden but there are different laws over in Australa that prevent them from doing so.

I personally havent been much interested in twenty/20. I dont think I will follow the world championship too closely. One advantage of playing it is that you can discover good hitters for one-dayers. I think every team needs one good clean hitter. Another advantage will be that new teams can be given chances to play in such tournaments.

Yes, this version of the game is not very popular here in Asia. We are more into the traditional versions. I think India's stance is correct in assuming that a world championship should not be held untill most of the major cricket playing nations are into the new version. If ICC wants to promote twenty/20, they need to take some steps to get all the teams to play it first and then propose a world championship. Thats my opinion. However, if the world championship gets popular and successful, the Asian countries will have to enter at some point of time.

I don't like the ICC Trophy but i accept that England have to enter it so India should be made to enter a 20/20 tournament. If they feel that strongly against it they could always play their under 19 team to give them experience for the future.

India seem to behave like a spoilt brat most of the time, the only downside is they drag the rest of asia along with them. I think it's a great shame to have india boycott any aspect of the game, but it's their decision, but they should make their own choice and not try to influence everyone else.

If they don't want to play it fine, that's their decision, I hope they're not intending to try and stop all the other countries who do want to play a tournament from doing so just because they're not interested though.
