| NZ vs. WI 2nd ODI Well the second ODI has started in Queenstown between NZ and WI. New Zealand won the toss and chose to field (no surprise). Squads: New Zealand: J M How, N J Astle, S P Fleming, S B Styris, B B McCullum, P G Fulton, J E C Franklin, L Vincent, D L Vettori, S E Bond, M J Mason, J S Patel (sub) West Indies: D Ganga, C H Gayle, R S Morton, R R Sarwan, S Chanderpaul, W W Hinds, D R Smith, D Ramdin, I D R Bradshaw, F H Edwards, J E Taylor, R N Lewis (sub) Looks like Fleming still hasn't got Chanderpaul to give in and not play with Super subs. WI currently 87/4 with Hinds and Morton at the crease 21 and 24 respectively.

| Lara will no longer play ODIs but will play tests for a while, I seem to remember hearing. This really has been terrible from the Windies, 172/6 after 45.5 overs is not good enough at all, NZ will have no problem chasing that down. |

| West Indies got 200/9 from there 50 overs. It could have been a lot worse than that. Man, Shane Bond is on fire though!! |

| New Zealand won the game by three wickets after a fifty down at the bottom of the order from Dan Vetorri. The top four batsmen all got out for single figures and Scot Styris only scraped to 10. It was a good batting performance from NZ's lower order and clearly shows their strength in depth. Well done NZ.

| 3rd ODI New Zealand defeated the West Indies after posing a good total of 276 with a fiery innings from Nathan Astle of 118. The West Indies reply had too many low scores to look threatening and they eventually fell 21 runs short of the target. BBC Scorecard here

| The highlight of the game was really the 'catch of the century' from Nathan Astle to dismiss Dwayne Smith off the bowling of Jeetan Patel. The hit looked like a 6 for all intents and purposes; Astle on one leg, and with his left hand, plucks the ball out of the air from about a yard BEHIND the boundary, but as Astle managed to keep his feet inside the rope (just) Smith was dismissed. Amazing game for Astle! Windies should have won this one after Morton and Gayle started well, and thanks to some big hitting from Bradshaw at the death, they could have still won it. Jeetan Patel bowled very well for 3 wickets, and Dan Vettori bowled well until Bradshaw destroyed his figures!! |
