In the sub continent there is a huge passion for ODI's. Not test matches. This is why teams in the subcontinent play a lot more ODI's than Eng/Aus. For many the passion lies in action, not in ability to play an innings under difficult conditions.

I guess Vrock.

Then the original statement is wrong then,as they would be passionate about all forms of the game if they were the most passionate.Even 20/20

Greg, I think the 20/20 would be something the Indian crowds would get behind - its the Cricket Board that is against it. Still have to agree that the heart of cricket passion is on the subcontinent. Just because there are empty seats in a test match - one with 4 regular England players missing - and therefore a wrongly preceived view that it would not be a contest and therefore the Entertainment level not worth watching.

Also we do not no how much broadcasting is being made available, which will effect the crowd numbers.

I don't know about the tv coverage but on TMS today they were saying how crazy it was that there was no radio commentary in the whole of India after this new rights deal.

To be honest I can't see why BCCI wouldn't be behind twenty20, it's a perfect money spinner. I can't understand why there is no radio coverage. Surely it's more of a loss to Nimbus (do they sell the rights to Radio coverage?) or who ever sells these rights in not selling them at all rather than selling them reasonably low.

I think appointment of Eddie Maguire to CEO of Channel 9 in Australia, may hasten the positioning of the 20/20 format from being a poor relative of 50 over ODI's to becoming the dominant form of limited overs cricket in a surprisingly short time frame.

being a pakistani fan, i think aust/NZ deserve to hold the tournament as the cycle should go, however i doubt this will happen because of politics, and i think the icc will let south asia hold the tournament as a way of gettin them happy for the twenty20 world cup. having said that, i am personally not a fan of a twenty20 cup unless something can be done to alter it a bit.

I think it should be in the subcontinent. There are cricket crazies in the subcontinent and also very high populations to visit the matches.

India likes cricket the best,so does Pakistan and Sri Lanka (I don't know about Bangladesh). But in other countries such as Australia,England, etc. most of the attention goes to football and sports like that.

Do you think that the recent events in Guwahati will affect the sub-continents chances of getting the World Cup, clearly after the riots and so forth if a game was rained off could this be expected all around India?
