No country treats ODI cricket as seriously as Test cricket but to say that England dont take it seriously is just untrue just because they are terrible at ODI doesnt mean they dont take it seriously.

Those of us who play for nothing can claim our teams are there for our benefit. Once players become pros by definition they are working for they're employers' company (in this case the ECB) Any company's top priority should be the satisfaction levels of their customers (Us via ticket sales, merchandising and media rights). I do concede however this fully commercial argument is skewed simply because as sport fans our brand loyalty is virtually unbreakable. I might have to agree that Australia have been a better performer than us but I'm not going switch to them because my loyalty to my chosen brand of England is so ingrained. I agree when the first England teams was formed you point would be valid but in a (kind of) commercial relationship consumer satisfaction must be a strong, some might even suggest, the ultimate consideration.
