ICC appoints Hair to stand in internationals

I mean whatever happened to members' voting majority and Sonn's statement that ICC lost confidence in Darrel Hair.

Good he should be in an umpire he is the best umpire in the world and was voted the best umpire in the world. The ICC left him out to dry he should be allowed to umpire internationally

Here it is: a triangular tournament in Mombasa among Kenya, Scotland and Canada. May not be something to lose too much sleep over wherever you stand on the Hair story.

From The Guardian.

It's an insult. In Japan, they don't sack their staff - they make them do demeaning work until the shame of it all makes them resign. I reckon they are trying that tactic on Hair to see if he cracks. The ACB and ECB should offer him some umpiring work in Australia.

I disagree. Simon Taufel stands out by a mile and has improved markedly in the last five years. Hair too often happy to be the story.

He is certainly a most interesting umpire though. In particular, his (correct) willingness to give people out lbw to spinners a) when sweeping and b) when playing no shot but outside the line of off stump.

Good decision to appoint him in that it would give many youngsters and up and coming players to interact with a seasoned and experienced umpire, as long as he is not too boorish with them. However, as with most things to do with cricket, it seems to have been poorly handled - the inconsistency in the various messages coming from the ICC is inexcusable.

Well I'm not sure the "vote" you're talking about really represented the views of all the world, if it did the result would have been different, and Hair might well have topped quite a different kind of poll, possibly of being the worst umpire in world cricket.

Anyway, I'm not overtly bothered as long as he stays away from proper cricket between the full sides, which would mean all one-day interationals and the tests. Though I agree with M about the customary mishandling of the issue by the ICC. They've been forever unsure it seems of what they're opinion of Mr Hair is.

Since when did you convert from being a realist to an optimist M?

Hair is not supposed to officiate in any matches involving test-playing nations.

Would you say that is "demeaning" enough Seamer?
