Do you know what - I can't even be bothered to listen to this on the web, or check the score on Crapinfo - this is just poor, a bloody mess, and something needs to be done before the world cup.

We need a One Day coach, and captain. We need to freshen up the squad and give some players a rest. we have nothing to loe as in our current state, we are not going to compete in the world cup anyway.

I'd send home Vaughan, Strauss, Bell, Colly, Read, Mahmood and Anderson. Then I'd select a squad something like this :

Loye,
Irani *
Shah
Joyce
KP
Maddy
Bopara
Flintoff
Nixon V*
Prior
Tremlett
Panesar
Dalrymple
Plunkett
Onions
Broad

Then I send over Hollioake / De Freitas / Fairbrother / Law / watkinson as ODI coaches, make Irani captain and Nixon his vice.

The current form is cack and the players are not mentally strong enough to pull themselves out of it!

England need to drop Loye, Nixon and Strauss. Bell should only be in the team because KP's injured.

Owais Shah should be called up, and Bopara needs a shot. Joyce should stay, and there should be call-ups for the two Jameses, Benning and foster.

I think 200 is a very distant dream now. 162-6. We cant bat and cant bowl either. Utter rubbish. I'll admit I'm not watching it but the test serviceon the beeb is very unpleasant reading.

Have you not seen enough of him in Test cricket to make a fair judgement on this? Or at least read the reports in Wisden? I've seen two of his test centuries and they have both been (especially the one at Brisbane) very useful knocks.

the Kiwis have the bonus point in the bag....

I think they have to restrict England to less than 254 to get it. Shouldn't be hard!

True, but rather than mix and match with the current crew and let any new blood just sink into the same mire as the rest, I'd leave it. I'd use the same lot as today and watch them get beat, twiice probably. Then I'd send more or less the lot home (certainly to include strauss, collingwood and flintoff) and either send an academy side, or use any player thats had a bit of cricket in the last 3 months. This lot are broken men. They wll fail in the world cup just as badly, in fact unless we absolutely hammer WI in may/june in both froms of the game I'd be dropping them permenatly. Failure to do that would be re-creating the dark days of the 90s where england carried mentally shot players for years hoping they'd turn it on again. If our academy is anything like as good as marsh thinks it is we can get a side together from that, or there isnt much point in having one.

Utterly pathetic. I hope nobody tries to explain this as a far improved batting performance. It hasn't been - it's been useless. No ambition whatsoever, no innovation and apparantley no effort to reach the target. England have batted in a way which would have been commended had they been Zimbabwe - 'showed some guts' etc etc. Well, they're not. And they should be ashamed at yet another supine, miserable performance.

BatsmenRunsB4s6sSR
PA Nixon (lhb)7160043.75

This is a 'one-day specialist'! I was absolutely wrong about Nixon, thought he would do a useful job. I know the game is lost, but have some pride, try to get 280 instead of 220. Dalyrmple's fading too - time for a serious, serious think for English cricket as, for the first time in my life, on Friday I was completely disinterested by the match with Aus. Didn't watch it, listened to a bit and glanced at the scoreboard. I'm sure there are many like me. Even when we were really bad at Test cricket, we weren't this miserable to watch.

Agreed - Nixon is useless. Better to invest in youth, i.e. James Foster.

Now, Dalrymple is out. He has been disappointing of late, too....

I think Nixon is just an excuse not to play Read. What has Read done. I have never seen a player treated so badly in my life. I am surprised they did not call up Nic Pothas. As for England, unfortunately there is no hope. Losing becomes a habit. They will be severely tested after the WC in test matches as any country will believe they can beat them.

That's true, gibbs fan....

I think England's suffering in ODIs because of the poor attention paid in this country to this form of the game. It is seen as a poor cousin to test cricket, and the results reflect that. The one-day competitions in domestic cricket nneed a serious overhaul.
