Thumbs up South Africa take over as No.1 ODI team

The South African cricket team have taken over Australia as the no.1 team in the official ICC One Day International rankings. This is the first time that Australia have been overthrown of the top spot ever since the rankings were introduced in 2002.

South Africa reached the top spot after beating Pakistan in their series and New Zealand beating Australia in the Chappel-Hadllee series.

Good. That should be just the right sort of fillip that South Africa needed going into the World Cup. I think they'll win it this time.

The question is whether S.A can plant their flag at the top of the mountain until the year 2012 to emulate Australia's 5 years at the top. The reason i say that is when they reached the top of the mountain in test cricket in 2002, they slid straight down the other side, when Australia whitewashed them in S.A to reclaim the top spot within a month. They hold the spot by a mere 2 points - failure in WI and history will repeat itself.

Fresh air....

I was just tired of seeing Australia at the top. Now there is some competition. I wish to see some team other than Australia win the WC. Let there be some competition there at the top.
