| The way I see it, an India vs Pakistan or Australia vs England could involve too much team rivalry due to the tradition between those countries leading to a counter-productive anticlimax. The media will have a field day in the lead-up to the clash and the resulting tension will stretch the players' nerves to such an extent that neither team will want to lose and might adopr a 'safety-first' approach. I know that the Aussies normally do not play that way, but after the recent ODI setbacks, they are likely to be more wary than usual.
A South Africa vs New Zealand final on the other hand, will feature two teams neither of whom have won the title before and without any special rivalry between them. The build-up is likely to be more neutral and this could result in a fine action-filled contest between two aggressive teams. It would be particularly interesting if the Proteas batted first, setting a target of 300+ and then the Kiwis, with their good record of chasing down totals, went after it. |
