3 shoot for immortality in cup

If Australia do win it

Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Glenn McGrath will become the unique elite of the elite in one day cricket.
3 time world cup champions.

Maybe, but it'll be nice to see Pollock or Fleming go out of the international scene with the World Cup on the back.

I would say the same about Tendulkar and Lara. They have been awsome cricketers and should be associated with a world cup win once before their career ends.

The ICC ought to form a "legends" side for every World Cup: qualification should be based on announcement of retirement or immiment retirement from ODI cricket.. and the side should play the "winners" of the tournament.

This year the side could have read as follows:

Tendulkar
Jayasuria
Fleming
Lara
Ganguly
Inzi
Flower
Pollock
Streak
Harmison
McGrath

I reckon it would absolutely stomp on all the national teams in this "young man's" form of the game

Since when has Harmison been a "legend" of one day cricket?

68 Wickets at 30.46 and at a touch over 5 an over!

Maybe that team could tour all countries over the following 2 years after the World Cup like a Barbarians team ?

Thats probably the only way do to it, otherwise a legends game could overshadow the world cup final.

And i cant see the marketing guys going for that!

It would definitely help persuade a few players toying with the idea of retirement to make the leap and go out with big triumphant glorious ending to their carreer. They could come up with a name for the team like "The World Cricket Masters" or something.
