Who will play the innings of World Cup 2007?

All right; this is a different from considering who the world's best big-hitter in ODIs is or who the overall top player of World Cup 2007 will be. I am talking about one innings - one single major effort from a player (not necessarily the team's top batsman) - that will enable his team to turn things around from the brink and win that one game. It should be remembered after the tournament and in posterity as a great innings irrespective of how far his team went after that match. I am talking about the sort of innings like Kapil Dev played against Zimbabwe in 1983 (although on that occasion Inida did go on to win the World Cup )

It does not have to be an Afridi-like bash; a well planned finish like one of many by Bevan will do just as good.

Tbh it could be anyone, at anytime. Any player could stand up and have his moment, where he is in the zone, and everything goes right for him. Think Nathan Astle in 2002, even though it was a test match everything he did came off, but he had a slightly average career in the end. Its impossible to predict really.

I think that Symonds, Ganguly's and Ponting's innings last time around were all around even, but I think that Ponting might have another massive score during the tournament it just depends on the quality of the opposition. I can also see Jayasuriya coming out with a big score because it will be his last world cup and he has been brilliant through out his career in ODI's

I would fancy Ponting to make several substantial score judging by the from he's in so the chances are one of them could be the innings.

As its going to be Lara's last WC and its on home soil I wouldnt bet against him doing something special.

So there you have it, IMO either Ponting or Lara

I think Andrew Flinoff is due - lots of folk have forgot 2005 already.

Jacob Oram is also capable of playing the best innings, as is Gilchrist and Pietersen.

Flintoff or Ponting.

I remember 2005...

Liverpool won the Champion's League.
Michael Schumacher did not win the F1.
The Crusaders won the Super 14.
The Cheetahs won the Currie Cup

oh and there was a nasty rumour going about that England won the Ashes...I'm going to need a source for that one.

Ok sorry just being a bit silly.

Based on current form I am going to go with Ricky Ponting, as much as it hurts to say so. This is because there are less 'maybes' about him posting up some very big scores.

I said other, because Inzamam is long over due to play a excellent world cup innings plus this could very well be his swansong. I hope he gets it too. That would solidify his place as one of the game best batsman no contest.

Got to Catergories it, Who wil score the innings for each team. What you said could be anyone. Paul collingwood might put in a great innings. Shaun Pollock could get a great 100. Afridi might go mental and hit 150 in 70 balls or something. Dhoni could get a patient 126 N-O and win the game.

I think i emphasised the point. Remember that canadian who hit a tone against South Africa i think at the last world cup? Well, it could happen.

To me, it is who puts in the most consistent performances...

Paul Collingwood got 2 centuries and 1 half century in 3 matches. Thanks to his consistence, England won all 3 of them.

For me, out of the top 8 teams, I would say:

England - Pieterson will hit a big innings at least once.
Pakistan - Has to be Afridi. Razzaq does the job as well, they are a good batting team.
India - Tendulkar - Typical choice to make, but you think, last world cup so he has to make a good innings and maybe when it counts the most.
Australia - Hussey looks unbeatable at the moment. Ponting was in good touch, but you have to say Hussey.
Sri Lanka - Jawerdeyne (spelling). Always gotta say him, mainly cos I don't really know anyone who is in his class for Sri Lanka. Sangkarra(spelling) maybe?
New Zealand - Nathan Astle. Fleming has had his turn, now for Astle.
West Indies - Brain Lara. Last world cup for him, in front of home crownd, seems made to me...
South Africa - What can I say? Smith, a captains innings...

Now lets see what really happens now that I have made a prediction...
