Age and Experience in World Cup Squads

Travis Basevi and George Binoy have penned an interesting article on Age and Experience in World Cup Squads: see The real Dad's Army, and inexperienced England
Quote:
A most eye-catching stat is England's inexperience. Eight of their players have played fewer than 25 one-day internationals and only Paul Collingwood and Andrew Flintoff have played more than 100.

South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and India, who went through a makeover that didn't turn out right, have more or less the same squads that contested the 2003 World Cup. Australia, on the other hand, have just six players from the squad that won in 2003. The other nine will be making their World Cup debuts.

Well Fletcher had his team that he wanted to play and he has had to revise his selection because of injuries - he did say at one stage that he wanted everyone to have played 30 matches. Two of those 7 who have played over 30 aren't guaranteed to play. Strauss and Anderson. Joyce 12, Plunkett 22 and Lewis 12 could be playing instead.

1 Trescothick - fitness
2 Strauss - form
3 Vaughan - unknown whether he will be fit enough or in form
4 Pietersen
5 Collingwood
6 Flintoff
7 Jones - form
8 Giles - fitness and form
9 SJones - fitness
10 Gough - fitness and form
11 Harmison - retirement

1 Flintoff - 115 matches
2 Collingwood - 112
3 Vaughan - 77
4 Strauss - 74
5 Anderson - 57
6 Pietersen - 42
7 Bell - 36
8 Dalrymple - 24
9 Plunkett - 22
10 Mahmood - 19
11 Lewis - 12
12 Joyce - 12
13 Nixon - 10
14 Panesar - 9
15 Bopara - 1

I don't think Trescothick's disappearance from the scene has anything to do with physical fitness anymore. Is he not on treatment for chronic depression?
