as i think they are going to win, im going for Stephen Fleming. already think hes the best captain in world cricket today, ans has been for a while, his changes seem to work time after time, he never looks worried and is a class act with the bat, therefore he is my choice

Congrats, to whoever voted for Dravid he's a renowned tactical genius and has captained brilliantly this world cup .

Fleming will probably do the best job this WC. From what I've seen of the SA v Aus match Smith isnt covering himself with glory and Ponting will have to if he hopes to defend any less than 475 with his attack.

Vaughan is a very good test skipper but IMO not a good ODI one. IMO it will probably come down to NZ or Sri Lanka as the best skippered side.

Vaughan's Test captaincy is generally characterised by calculated agression.... but I'm still waiting to see that same approach in the ODIs: I'd like to see him bring Panesar on for the 9th / 10th over, whilst the ball is still hard, perhaps delaying the second power play (briefly) to allow some protection in the guy's 2nd / 3rd overs; I'd also like to see the final power play delayed until the ball has gone soft.

With all that said... it's tough to captain imaginatively when confronted with bowlers who can't cope with bowling a disciplined line and length to an aggressive 7-2 field!

Exactly, we lack agression and are far too negative in the powerplays - How often do edges fly through a vacant second slip 5 overs into a game? Like you said we lack innovation something which Vaughan cant really be accused of in the test arena.

Possibly, but I personally think that a 7-2 field tempts the bowlers to bowl too wide outside off. A 6-3 field would let the bowler attack off stump and be more effective.

As an example, I remember watching a domestic one day game between Worcs and (i think) Glous. Worcs were defending a very small target but had the great Glenn McGrath in their team. Unfortunately the Worcs skipper set a field of 7-2 because he knew that McGrath could easily bowl to it - and he did, even when the skipper gave him an 8-1 field but because he bowled a foot and a half outside off stump he was of no threat and Glos easily won the game. However it was painfully obvious at the time that if he has been bowling to a 6-3 field he could have attacked off stump more and could possibly have won Worcs the game.
