ODI Record claimed by Gibbs

Great hitting by Gibbs gives him the record of six 6's off one over;

AS per cric info

29.6van Bunge to Gibbs, SIX, He has done it! One-day record. No one has hit six sixes in a row. GIbbs stands alone in that zone. And the minnow bashing continues! Full and outside off and bludgeoned over long off
29.5van Bunge to Gibbs, SIX, Short in length, on the off stump line and Gibbs rocks back and swat-pulls it over wide long off. SImply amazing. What a batsman. This is pure violence!
29.4van Bunge to Gibbs, SIX, Wah Wah! Low full toss and guess where this went Yep. A slap slog and it went over deep midwicket! He is going to go for 6 sixes in this over!
29.3van Bunge to Gibbs, SIX, Carnage! Flatter one this time but it makes no difference to Gibbs. He just stands there and delivers. This one also has been sucked over long off
29.2van Bunge to Gibbs, SIX, Murder! Floated on the leg and middle stump line and Gibbs sends it soaring over long-off.
29.1van Bunge to Gibbs, SIX, Violence! Gibbs charged down the track and hoicked it over long on.

37.2ten Doeschate to Boucher, FOUR, He's done it. The fastest fifty in World Cups. He goes past Brian Lara's 23-ball fifty against Canada in 2003. Down the leg side and clipped superbly behind square for four

Now Boucher smashs the fastest 50 in WC History - 51 from 21 deliveries. The the next 3 go for 4,6 and 1 - South Africa seem determined to take back the world record highest ODI score - At this rate they will do it.

And now SA has the title of most 6's in a ODI match with 30 - giving them a score of 353 / 3 off only 40 overs, with the rain reducing the match to a 40 over game - would love to have seen what the score would have been if they batted the full 50.

Not to take anything away from the performance, but it was actually 30 fours, A-Y, and only 17 sixes.

Just worth noting as well that Johnnie Walker had pledged a charitable contribution to a charity of the player's choosing for the first man to hit six sixes off an over, and, thanks to them and Herschelle Gibbs, Habitat for Humanity is better off to the tune of US$ 1 million tonight. Take a look at habitat.org if you are interested in finding out a bit about them and their efforts to provide simple, decent and affordable housing in partnership with people in need.

You're right: eighteen it is - my mental arithmetic could do with some work! Either way it's a lot of sixes!

500 could have been a definite possibility the way they were charging at the bowlers if they had played 50 overs.

Oh yeah! Even Kallis was hittng the poor Dutch out of the ground and with Kemp and Pollock still in the hutch all hell could have broken loose in the last 10 overs. Pity about the rain earlier.

Even though it was against the Dutchmen's below par bowling, this sort of attacking display by Gibbs et al could be a dangerous sign for rest of the tournament.
