India top 400 over Bermuda

Indians smashed 413 for 5 in 50 overs against Bermuda, but this is very much a consolation prize after the shocking performance against Bangladesh. The next step is to get Bermuda all out asap and hope that Sri Lanka hammer Bangladesh in their enounter - a result far more favourable to India than a Bangla win. Either way of course, India will have to beat Sri Lanka to qualify; the icing on the cake - if such a term was suitable - would be if Bermuda restrict Bangladesh to a total less than 320 in the final match.

Thanks for the reminder that there is some cricket being played, Nostromo! Bermuda are now 0-1 in reply after one over, and I don't think this game will last long.

In the other match, Zimbabwe made 202-5 in their fifty overs against West Indies in Jamaica.

Well, Bermuda are 147-8 in the 40th over, so a large win for India on the cards. But India needed it - one commentator earlier today said that they really needed a win by 250 to have a realistic chance of going on to the Super Eights. I can't say I've checked the arithmetic, but that is a big margin and Bermuda are only 16 runs away from holding it below that level. So maybe all is not clear cut in that group.

Elsewhere, West Indies are moving along broadly at the target run rate, presently 115-3 of 28 overs against Zimbabwe in their chase for 203 to win.

And, as I have an early start tomorrow, that's as far as I am taking it today. Back in eight hours for the results.

Actually, India won by 257 runs in the end, compared with SL's 243 run win agaist Bermuda a few days ago. So I guess all those sixes helped, but I am still worried about the mediocre bowling. If they want to beat Sri Lanka - and they have to - they have to bowl a lot better. Zaheer Khan & Munaf Patel were good in patches but despite his good performance today, Kumble is going to pose no threats to the Sri Lankans. Agarkar too should play, but they have to somehow squeeze in a proper 5th bowler in the shape of Pathan. They cannot drop Sehwag now and so Uthappa's position might be a bit shaky.

completely agree with you nostromo
i think there is a real need for a better 5th bowler rite now even if it is pathan who is not in good form thats okay
dropping uthappa would be better also spinners agaisnt lanka usually don't have much say especially harbhajan who looks no threat even if he is playing against a minnow team(indians really miss a better off spinner in the form of ramesh powar)

Sehwag has now bought himself a good excuse to make ducks for the rest of the tournament. "You can't drop me, I just came off a century !!" I really hope he kicks on from here, likewise Sachin and Dravid. Yuvraj looks in particularly good nick.

Sehwag might kick-off from the Bermuda match. He concentration and confidence are likley to have improved now. Tendulkar should be all right, but I am not sure that Dravid dropping himself down the order is such a good idea unless it is to allow the hitters to get on with it in the remaining overs.
