Smile India Power Biggest Score In Cup History

After being in self-destruction mode against Bangladesh, the Indian batsmen were in opposition destruction mode against Bermuda. Powered by Virender Sehwag’s return to form century, Sourav Ganguly’s anchor role, and Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh’s blitzkriegs, they piled up a World Cup record of 413 runs with 5 wickets lost.

Chasing a World Cup record total of 413 runs Bermuda were all out for 156 in 43.1 overs, handing India a 257-run victory, also a World Cup record. Virender Sehwag hit a breezy 114 off 87 deliveries and the barrage of sixes that Yuvraj Singh smacked all over the ground was exhilarating. Even Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar made a smashing hit with (89-Ganguly) & (57 not out, Tendulkar)

The previous best total was 398-5 by Sri Lanka against Kenya at Kandy in the 1996 ICC CWC. It was also the biggest victory in one-day internationals by run-margin, the previous highest being Australia's 256-run win over Namibia in the last ICC CWC in South Africa.

Do you think that Would India be able to maintain the same consistency for other matches?
I think that now Indians are much more confident for their performance in world cup 2007. They are going to use their best efforts to win the world cup.

Sorry, but thrashing Bermuda means nothing.

It just proves that Shewag is a flat track bully and just needed some weaker bowlers to get into some runs. The fact that just days earlier they couldn't muster a decent total against Bangaldesh, despite having some of the most talented batters around.

The bowling attack still looks weak, and I doubt they will bowl out the big guys as easily.

I doubt very much they will beat Sri Lanka, and even of they do go through, I seriously doubt they will match South Africa or Australia..

Well against everyone else Bermuda have been unable to break the 100 barrier when batting, a score of 156 is roughly twice what they would normally manage, suggests a very flat track or ineffective bowling, perhaps both.

This question cannot be polled effectively with a 'yes' or 'no' answer. IMO, India will gain some momentum from the performace against Bermuda because a big score, even against minnows, is likely to give a psychological boost. It is not as though the Indian team lacks talent; far from it. But they need to focus those talents and play as a team and the Bangla defeat, followed by the big win against Bermuda, might just be the catalyst to bring them to the surface. The situation may also be helped by the fact that they simply have to beat Sri Lanka; there is no other option.

If India do get through to the Super 8s, then they are likely to play with increasing confidence. If they do go all the way, I wonder how many people will turn around and say that the Bangla defeat was a blessing in disguise because it served as the necessary kick in the collective butt at a time when other issues were starting to take precedence over the game.

Well myself, I think India can find some consistency ... which mean that neccesarily will.
Sri Lanka will be a tough test...but under current situation...
It will be a major highlight of the group stages.
