Net run rates and all that

I am confused by this net run rate calculations particularly in India's Group B. Someone please help.
  • By what margin do India have to beat Sri Lanka to ensure that they are ahead of SL on run rate? Or is it sufficient simply to beat them?
  • If India do win and get ahead of SL on run rate, where will that leave Bangladesh? How big should their victory over Bermuda be to push them in-between or even ahead of India and Srl lanka in a scenario where all 3 teams have 4 points at the end?

Its not about run rates anymore. If India beats SL, India and SL go through irrespective of run rates. If SL beats India, SL and BD go through irrespective of run rates.

Thanks DomainK, that is great news. India must still beat Sri Lanka of course, but at least they can go to the match with the knowledge that they don't have to worry about keeping up with the run rate or the outcome of the Bermuda vs Bangladesh clash. That eases the pressure on the players (not to mention on us fans) a bit. Furthermore, if India do beat Sri Lanka and then go through with them, India get those 2 bonus pints.

Of course, Sri Lanka will want to beat India themselves even though they are through, because by taking Bangladesh rather than India with them to the super 8s, they (SL) get the points. But the big question is, having ensured themselves of going through, will they think about resting the 'injured' but dangerous Jayasuriya? He could easily make the difference between winning and losing against India with his all-round display.

They might. Jayasuriya is going to play a very important role in the super eight. It wont be wise of SL to risk Jayasuriya with this game unless he has fully recovered from the injury. That will work in India's favor.

I think the only way of cracking that Lankan batting line-up would be to put them under the pressure of a huge target. India's batsmen can do that but I am not so sure of the bowlers.
