And if there was a betting scandal/conspiracy...

If there is a criminal underworld syndicate making money from long odds bets in the cricket World Cup, what then?

An Ireland victory over one of the Test nations?
A Bangladeshi victory (or qualification) at the expense of one of it's more vaunted group rivals?
How about a West Indian triumph (the first host nation to win) in the World Cup Final?

Hmmm.

All supposition of course.

And what would be elegant and excellent recompense?

Here's a thought; wouldn't a betting syndicate lose an exorbitant amount of money if, on the back a murder enquiry, the World Cup was cancelled?

Trouble there, is; it wouldn't just be the syndicate to lose out.

I suspect today that India will beat Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh will fail to gather the necessary figures to overhaul their neighbours and qualify for the Super five (plus Ireland, the West Indies and England).

What a funny group! Everyone beating everyone... but it all goes to show that a Bangladesh win over India proves beyond doubt that they are a worthy Test nation!!!

Unlike Ireland of course. But then, that was due to match fixing. Obviously. Well wasn't it?

Like the horror of agents fees (and/or "bungs") in association football, I suspect we will never really get to know the truth regarding Bob Woolmer's untimely death.

And some august and authoritarian body (or bodies) will disallow us from learning the true facts behind any match fixing claims. Be they genuine or otherwise.

Can't agree with that...............one win in a one day game doesn not mean anything in the Test arena (nor does one win vs India allied to a win vs Aus a couple of years ago). India tour Bangladesh soon I believe, think you;ll find that will be a better guide of how test-worthy the Bangladeshi side is.

My view is that they were awarded test status too early, that said, they are now showing the benefits of constant exposure at the highest level and have some very talented cricketers. What they really need now is for a solid opening partnership and for Habibul Bashar to engage a couple of brain cells when he bats. They are now a worthy test nation, just not for that reason.
