continuing to play would be the biggest mark of respect for Bob that any of the teams could give. The last thing Bob would have wanted would be to be "responsible" for cricket not being played. He dedicated his life to making sure that cricket WAS played................

greg - what would be gained by calling off the World Cup.

It would not bring the criminals to justice, ordinary people from India paksitan and the rest of the world has used their savings to attent this Worls Cup.

I have little interest at the moment - but then I have not paid multple zeros to go to the West Indies.

Make the best of a bad job I say.

Ern i'm just posting the question having heard Donald say it should be cancelled.

I can see where Donald is coming from but Woolmer would have wanted it to continue and i think it should too.I just thought it was an interesting discussion point.

It doesn't matter either way cricket is in deep trouble.
Thank God for small mercies they didn't cover up it was murder because cricket usually covers up.
When Mark Waugh and Shane Warne were caught in 1995 they should of been kicked out the game. What did Australian cricket do they tried to cover it up.
When Cronje was caught they had an inquiry which was basically a coverup.
The bookie who got caught with Cronje named at least 9 other international crickters I don't think any where bought to book.
And don't anyone buy this Woolmer Mr Nice guy!

I think it should be cancelled. Because in supposing Woolmer was assassinated to ensure his silence regarding betting cartels, one can safely assume that those same betting cartels will lose vast amounts of money if the World Cup does not reach their instructed conclusion.

However, all of that said, the international community of cricket would also lose out substantially if the World Cup does not continue.

Therefore it pains me to say that the World Cup should continue.

And the buzzwords will be: "for the memory of Bob Woolmer."

Nonsense!

Hey I was not getting at you - I was thinking aloud really.
I can understand people not wanting to go on with it, i just think a lot of effort has gone into preperation, and fans expectations for their teams.

I think it should continue. I am not going to put forth the arguement that "there is still no proof that poor Woolmer's death was in any way linked to cricket". I think as intelligent people, we all know the possibilities in our hearts. But calling off the entire tournament will only complete the killing off of the game itself after this tragedy. Moreover, the Caribbean host countries have done nothing wrong and the loss of revenue to them would be a very unfair punishment.

It will be very strange if it isn't linked to cricket. My guess it is directly linked to cricket. Cricket has not dealt with the match fixing and this is the price we play. Its probably what the sport deserves it denies there is a problem and on its show piece one of coaches is murdered which is almost certainly linked.

Simply put - Cricket is bigger than any one person, therefore the game continues.

I am sure Bob would have agreed.
