Post March 28, Super Eights - South Africa Vs Sri Lanka

A crucial game for both the teams. It seems like Graeme Smith has already started panicking even before the start of play. This article here suggests me that he is really worried about the pitch which seems like what the teams will be offered to play. While it is true in the past Sri Lanka have done well in slow-low sub-continent wickets, they no longer prefer to get restricted to those wickets.

Code:
Sri Lanka's recent performance in the sub-continent

In India
ODI series lost to India 6-1
Test series lost to India 2-0

In Sri Lanka
ODI series lost to Pakistan 2-0
Code:
Sri Lanka's recent performance outside the sub-continent

In England
ODI series won 5-0 against England
Test series tied 1-1 against England
20-20 match won against England

In Australia
Entered the finals of VB series eliminating South Africa from the tournement
Lost the VB finals against Australia 2-1

In New Zealand
Drawn the Test series against New Zealand 1-1
Drawn the ODI series against New Zealand 2-2
Drawn the 20-20 series against New Zealand 1-1
Of course what Graeme Smith remembers is that he lost the ODI series to Sri Lanka 5-0 (and did the Test series as well I think) in Sri Lanka. At the post match interview of the last match (in that series), Graeme Smith made an interesting comment. He said that he would remember that series for interesting reasons (in which he earned nothing) and would make Sri Lanka pay at a time that really matters. He wasn't able to live upto his words in the VB series as the Lankans reached the finals there. He should consider this as the right time to make it count!

For a few reasons SL think SA as their bunny team.
Code:
1. The comments that Graeme Smith makes which always back-fire at him.
2. The clear dominance over a long period.
Unlike the match against India, the players are not under pressure at all. It is just that they need to do the basics right. I guess that will be more than enough to win the game for them!

Sri Lanka gets the toss right and opens tha batting against South Africa. At 21 wins against each other this game could go either way.

While Pollock is getting smashed again, Ntini has picked up Tharanga for 12 - but Sri Lanka are keeping up a great Run Rate thanks to the bowling of Pollock.

Pollock has been smashed out of the attack after bleeding 32 runs in 4 overs. Langeveldt comes in and bowls much better and stops the run of 4's for now.

Big break through by South Africa, Langeveldt taking the wicket of the inform Jayasuriya for 26. Really showing Pollock up there, Pollock seems to be a handicap for South Africa so far this World Cup

Sri Lanka in a bit of bother now with the loss of Sangakkara for 28 to Hall. Run Rate dropping as well as the wicket - RR now 4.19.

With there 4 top batsman now down, I think Sri Lanka will struggle to make 250 and if they lose any more wickets now then they will find 200 a struggle.

Langeveldt takes 3 wickets in the over (49th) and gets a 5 for - 10-1-39-5 - Great bowling by him.

So this is shaping up to be an interesting game now - Can South Africa bat this game out of Sri Lanka's reach or will there bowlers be able to protect this score? All out for 209 - 210 needed to win.

95/1 and S.A are cruising to an easy win, i thought the Lankans would offer more resistance than this... but right now it seems like a S.A and Aus final to me.
