30th Match, Super Eights: England v Ireland at Providence

England 23-2 having won the toss. Joyce and Vaughan both gone.

Anyone care to say that Vaughan is still worth his place in the team?

Sadly no, give Colly the captaincy for now and get Tresco well again.

KP is responding with a bit of lick to the Irish bowling efforts, sending Johnston for 14 off his first over. Let's hope the world's best ODI batsman can make a big hundred here.

69/2

Agreed with Collingwood captaincy, but Trescothik may never be back. He has chronic depression and under treatment.

I should have indicated my obvious disdain for the other opening options, I am fully aware of Trescothick's situation even now. I suppose Loye will have to do in the summer.

Or maybe KP just runs him out? Bell may have the wrong effect on KP here.

Oh joy, Bell gets out and KP is unsettled by it again. 113/4 now and we're relying on Colly again.

Seriously, this is Ireland. How will we beat any of the other Super Eight teams, or even compete?

KP now gone, possibly by trying to up the ante. I smell an upset, or at least only a 200 score. Freddie out for single figures anyone ?

Four down now. Ah well it's all over bar the shouting. Bye, bye Fletch.

Can there be any doubt now? From anyone? That Test players shouldn't necessarily make decent one day players.

I have said forever, that Vaughan, Strauss and Bell shouldn't play one day cricket. Bell has looked at sea, even against Ireland, Vaughan has never looked capable of doing anything, except against Bermuda, and Strauss...
...well Strauss is just along for the ride.

I mean, why pick a guy in the squad if you don't want him to play? I guess you could pick a one day specialist like Mal Loye, or someone else... but then he might be more deserving of a game than one of the other guys.

Like Vaughan perhaps. Och no, but Vaughan is class. Yes, in a five day game; when the ball isn't swinging and you can play like a windmill.
