Nasim Ashraf, the chairman of PCB, has made the momentous announcement that there would be no more foreign cricket coaches for Pakistan. This announcement seems rather superfluous since, in light of what happened to poor Bob Woolmer, I cannot somehow visualise "foreign" coaches falling over themselves for the job.

What Pakistan need is a strong coach who has the power to have the final say on selection etc. From the outside it seems that the ad hoc board can influence selection too much.

Does Imran not fancy getting involved with Pakistan cricket? He's the type of character they need right now IMO. He was an inspirational skipper and got what he wanted in the way of selection etc.

I can't imagine any coach would want the job to be honest.

Well, according to the PCB, they have received applications from afar a field as Australia, England and the West Indies. (applications for the position closed last week) And they will be beginning the selection process this week.

I reckon then a short-list will be made and candidates interviewed.

A number of local coaches (Pakistani) have also applied.

But, it does seem like "foreign coaches HAVE been falling over themselves to apply"...

Well in the absence of any names, it can safely be concluded that no coach of any real stature has applied.

I think most of those have retired... I was hoping Ray Jennings would take up the challenge though. Would have been interesting...

One name I have been hearing is Aquib Javed. We heard stories of PCB's interest in Whatmore earlier. But Whatmore seems more interested in India. Lets see who gets to the 'hot' seat.

I think Aqib Javed is strong candidate for Pakistan coach. Because It feels that Aqib will be the next coach.

According to some reports today, 5 candidates were short-listed. And all 5 are foreigners.
