April 10th: West Indies vs South Africa

Lara won the toss and has put SA in. Obviously, he knows the pitch well. SA made a bad start with Smith getting out to a poor stroke, but looks like De Villiers is cracking on. Predictably, Bosman has been included in place of the lacklustre Kemp but interestingly, the injured Gibbs is playing too.

Seems to be good batting pitch when Kallis gets to a strike rate of 120. SA are going well here.

De Villiers has just reached his maiden ODI hundred and is still there alongside Gibbs. Last time I checked SA were 201/2 with Kallis having fallen to Gayle for a surprisingly-brisk 79. Dr Jekyll is in today, I see.

South Africa finish on 356-4, leaving a huge mountain for the West Indies to climb.

77 runs in 5 overs? This must be some other team from the one that played Bangladesh.

I can see 69 in the last five, but not to quibble: it's still a heck of a lot! Maybe the 77 is somewhere else in the card?

77 runs in the last powerplay overs, 45 to 49 inclusive. The 50th over was 'normal'. WI have lost Smith & Gayle after a flurry of runs. Unless Lara pulls something out of a hat, they could be out.

With the ouster of WI after today's game, the crowds will further shrink to the limited quantity of foreigners that are visiting WI. No wonder we will see yet another blow to this cursed world cup with huge amounts of empty seats in the comming games.
I suggest ICC should think twice before they decide to stage the world cup in caribbean EVER AGAIN !!!

Thanks. That's a huge thumping for any team to recover from.

The West Indies are probably out of the WC now... the curse of the host nation continues. Maybe they need to stage it in Australia next. thats the only way they will break that curse!!
