Best Fielder in One-Day cricket?

The question is simple. Who is the best fielder in ODI cricket? I am only using Intenrational cricket as I am sure their are many exceptional fielder such as Gary Pratt who are not good enough to make it to the International squad. I have selected some of the better fielders from each team in the Super 8 (Who, in my opinion are the best fielder in the side) except Bangladesh and Ireland as I do not think many of them are as good as those mentioned...

I think Herschelle Gibbs is the best ground fielder in business. The only thing that he ever dropped was the World Cup 8 years ago.

Gibbs is good but I think Paul Collingwood has firmly grasped Jonty Rhodes' mantle as the best fielder in the world. His record of catches, both straightforward and making stunners look routine, boundary saves and run-outs is mightily impressive, and he has translated his one-day performances into the test arena too. Not only that, but his fielding to Monty Panesar in both ODIs and tests has been top notch. I can't see a better fielder in world cricket, though Gibbs and Ponting aren't far behind.

Dilshan sounded good the other day, in fact the whole SL team where right on the money. That said colly is very good, and has been for some time.

Hmm, it is close between Gibbs & Collingwood. Gibbs is certainly the better ground fielder in terms of cutting off runs, but the Englishman probably has the edge in close catching ability.

@henners:From the Indian cricket team, Yuvraj Singh and Kaif will make it to the list of the best fielders in international cricket.

Gibbs probably is the best of all fielders right now. In the entire history of the game, no one will beat Rhodes. However, David Boon is someone I will never forget. As a child, I was very impressed with his agility and he left an everlasting impression.

On this occasion I have to go with Paul Collingwood who is an outstanding fielder in any form of cricket, but in one day cricket - I have not seen better.

No, there is another even better South African, and one whom people feel may never be equalled. His name is Colin Bland and he is considered as the standard by which other fielders are measured.

Bland's most spectacular feat was the run out of England's Ken Barrington in the Lord's test of 1965, which helped SA to win that test and eventually the series. Barrington was actually interposed between Bland and the stumps, but the latter got a direct hit by throwing the ball between the running Barrington's legs.

Currently Collingwood is the best all round fielder in either versions of the game. Although there are are few players not very far behind him.

I agree Nostromo, Colin Bland was, in the eyes of those who saw him and Jonty play, probably the greatest ground fielder ever.

all time greatest fielder is IMO Colin Bland but of the current crop of players, Gibbs is the one for me.
like most polls, you cant seperate the various disciplines into stand-alone ones...

for eg. - lets say that collingwood is a better fielder than gibbs.but gibbs is a better batsman than collingwood....
is the difference in fielding great enough to say "hang on, colly can save more runs than gibbs so we
must pick him" when in reality, gibbs can save almost the same number and contribute a lot more with the
bat..... and thats without factoring in collys bowling as well! in the most cases, you are not able to
compare like for like without simplifying it far too much!
