There was a cricinfo article which said as they had beaten two test status teams they are now in the ODI championship (effectively they now have a world ranking of twelth). So I think that it is what the BBC were on about. I'm not sure what this means as far as Ireland playing test status teams, it puts them in the same bracket as Kenya effectively.

Well for me Ireland are a better team than Zimbabwe, the Zim match was Irelands first and they played it with understandable nerves, and still Zim could not beat them. If those two teams were to play a series I think that most people would regard Ireland as favourites.
