I still believe that man-for-man South Africa have a better team than Australia but there is a huge gulf in their outlook. The Australians think like champions while the Proteas lack that self-belief and tend to choke at crucial moments. I was hoping that the 438 victory last year would have cured that tendency, but their performance thus far in this World Cup shows that there are still some demons to be exorcised.
I think Ntini will be crucial in the semi-final agaist Australia. I hope that his omission from the England game serves as a wake-up call and he comes out with all cylinders firing. It is fortunate that Langeveldt did not do all that well in the England match because SA now don't need much excuse to drop him to bring back Ntini. The choice between Kemp and Peterson will depend on the conditions at St Lucia and maybe the toss.
