England do have better batter batsmen, like Rob Key, and Ed Smith. Unfortunaltly England did dot draft key into the squad when they had chance when Trescothick had to return home.

But Loye was the pick of the England openers in Australia, England would not have won the Tri ODI series without him staying at the wicket for more than ten deliveries.

He could not have been a worse opening batsman than Vaughan and Strauss in the World Cup, he probably would have outscored Bell and Collingwood, and Flintoff.

This one shot wonder scored a big hundred for Lancashire in their last game, he was good enough to get selected - so just because he plays the 'slog Sweep', or better still 'is able' - does not mean he does not have a range of shots, this guy has been around for a long while.

I actually agree with Ernest, Loye was one of the few to stick it to the Aussies, which the rest of the world badly needs to do. Who else is audacious enough to be slapping McGrath over mid-wicket for sixes in the first few overs of the match?

Thats the kind of message that the England team needed to send in this World Cup, not the nostalgic batting plan they employed instead.
