Fernando on and bowling around the wicket to Gilchrist - good tactics. Gilchrist is looking to play aggressively against Fernando.

46 from the 1st power play; sky informs us this is the least they have scored in the entire competition. Ominously no wickets down.

Also a bit of a mystery as SL have not taken their next power play. I believe this may be a mistake. lets hope not for us honoury Sri lankansfor the day

Whether or not that was in any game-plan or not is irrelevant, but it's a good idea especially against Fernando. Play a few shots and get Fernando under pressure, and this might start the no-ball problems that we all know Fernando has. That could end up as a problem for SL, as with a shortened game they cannot afford to give away freebie runs.

They miss Gilchrist and the next four balls goes for 4,4,6,1

And another 50 opening partnership for these two.

Basically (barring miracles) game over: time for the poor buggers who laid out cash for tickets to start dealing with the fact that as with all but about 4 games in this World Cup... the final looks set to be a complete dud.

16 runs taken from Fernandos last over. In desperation, he switched to bowling over the wicket on the last ball of the over. Muralitheran on now. Sangakarra has been standing up to the wicket for Fernando and Vaas.

Dilshan on now so two off-spinners operating in tandem.

Update: Dilshan getting some treatment from Gilchrist. Gilly has hit four sixes thus far.
