Seems to me that the Sri Lankans are trying to revist 1996 - there pace attack not making inroads into the batting and the batsman scoring heavily - so bring in the spinners to dry up the runs and try and take wickets. Meanwhile Gilly picks up a half century whil Haydos is lagging behind in this match.

The aussies putting on the pressure and Dilshan wilts a little. SL probably going to haveto bring back Malinga

109-0 at 6.61 runs an over. Gilly 79 not out in 57 balls. Dilshan smashed out of the attack. Fernando back again but his over went for 14. The Lankan bowlers not able to exert any pressure. The pitch is too flat. The ball isn't swinging or seaming. Australia should win from here as the pitch is expected to slow up when Sri Lanka bats.

Surely the sensible thing for Sri Lanka to do is keep calm, save the boundries, build a little pressure with Murali supported by a compitent spinner like Jayisuria and then take the powerplay with Murali and Malinga bowling. Just take the gamble that vaas, fernando bowl well at the death.

Everything going oz way. 137-0 off 20. Be interesting to see if they change their order to get Symonds in

Well played Gilly - 72 ball century

Gilchrist gets his century with 6 sixes and 8 fours off 72 balls - the fastest in WC finals. 2nd power play now with Vaas brought back. 89 runs scored between this power play and the first. Update: now Malinga is getting some stick from Gilchrist. But Malinga gets his man. Unfortunately, it wasn't Gilchrist. Last edited by Mike : 28-04-2007 at 05:56 PM.

Sri Lanka gets the break through getting Hayden out - unfortunately for Sri Lanka that wicket feel 172 runs to late for them.
