NatWest One Day International Series,England v India, Old Trafford-Thursday.

England 1-0 up in a one day series, have England's one day fortunes changed under Collingwood?.

I expect India to comes out and give England a fight, after all ODI cricket is their game, and pride will take a part.

It will be an interesting game without both Colly and Flintoff, it will need Bell - Pietersen and Andersen to shine, I bet Colly will play though.

Match starts 1430 Thursday

Well the weather is set fair in Manchester for Thursday - so no problems there.

Please post your match comments on this thread.

It's 2-1 to England actually Ern.

The question is, if Colly's unfit to play, who takes the captaincy?

Well if Flintoff is playing the answer IMO is simple - Flintoff - he has indeed would a one day trophey for England back in Australia, so he would be the obvious choice.
If not would Prior be a popular choice?, or better still give Pietersen a go - or even your Cook.

If Flintoff is playing, it would be madness to give it to anyone else, assuming of course that the world cup incident is now buried in the past. This is an extraordinary thing that I never expected to see - England having led the series twice now. Let's hope for a good game, and preferably one which moves along at a decent pace. The last day-nighter was running so late I had to give it up and go to bed. On schedule, I should be able to listen to most of the second innings while wide awake, and the end of it slightly before losing consciousness.

I wonder if India will have a player with reasonable batting capabilities coming it at No:7 rather than that horrifyingly long tail at Edgbaston. Yuvraj has shown that he can bowl reasonably well and with Ganguly also turning his arm over effectively, it might be worth having Gang-raj as a 5th bowler in Patel's place and bring in a batsman to fill the vacancy.

Perhaps Gambhir or Uthappa to open with Ganguly and Tendulkar coming in at No:4; Karthik can then move down to take the No:7 spot with Munaf Patel dropped.

Just heard Shstri say that running between the wickets is reason enough to demote Ganguly to a no6 in the order.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I've always thought Yuvraj isa more than useful bowler. Obviously I'd love to see England win but I can't see India's excellent batting line up mis-fire again. I'm bracing myself for a backlash!!

Just the six tosses lost in a row then. It's like having Nasser back.

Huge game today, and for the first time in a long time, we're in a genuinely exciting one day series.

India bat first which is the only sensible decision; chasing under lights in England and especially at Manchester is never very easy. I'm not sure why this game is a day nighter? It won't finish till about 2.30 AM Indian time so it can't be anything to do with Indian TV. England will have to bowl and field really well as chasing anything more than say 220 is not on the cards.

So which of Bopara, Shah or Flintoff do people reckon will come out in that pivitol position of number 8 in the batting order? ****** rather than use the return of a a genuine match winning all rounder to bolster the slightly thin looking bowling attack (and drop one of the luxury players Shah and Bopara) we have instead packed a batting lineup that has for a change in one day cricket looked capable of churning out competitive scores.

(On a side note it's such a shame that Old Trafford won't be getting an Ashes test in 09 when they keep their outfield in such pristine conditon)
