| Umar Gul on hat-trick? I just learned from a friend that Gul took two wickets in his last two balls in his last match against Lanka. He has not played international cricket since then. If he takes a wicket in the first ball in his next ODI, will it be a hat-trick?

| No. I recall reading somewhere (but I can't remember where) that a hat trick cannot traverse matches to be recognised by the statisticians (which, after all, is what really counts at the end of the day!). I believe that it can go across innings in first class or test matches, but even that doesn't really make a lot of sense. |

| Interesting one for a pedant like me. My dictionary defines hatrick as: "the taking of 3 wickets by the same bowler with 3 successive balls." so I guess by that definition Umar Gul is indeed on a hatrick. Not sure how Wisden records it however. It may be you're both right!! |

| I don't it will be called a Hatty. Im pretty sure it has to be in the same game.

| It won't be a hatrick. Across two different overs or two innings in the same match but not across different matches. |

| Thats actually good for GUL. I cant even imagine what a bowler will go through if he is on hat trick for months and when he is not getting a chance in the team all the while
