| Luke Wright has been catching the eye of just about every cricket follower this season: it's no bad thing whatsoever that he's been given this boost. For many players professional sport remains, as ever, about managing injuries (and playing through them): the only thing that's new is the understanding necessary to manage such injuries effectively. Players are better advised on when to play and when to rest than they have EVER been before... and in truth, the toughest strains of the international scene are mental rather than physical - I don't see a problem with the schedule. | Flintoff's injury is simply enough explained: as noted in this morning's paper (and not for the first time) the guy's a bit pigeon toed... meaning his left foot comes down pointing towards fine leg... and his action (involving 16-17 stone of bodyweight) twists the leg around so that by the time the ball is released... the foot is pointing at 2nd slip. Kevin Shine has been talking about the bio-mechanics... and it sounds as if reserach on such strains is in its infancy when compared with research on the more common lower back problems... but the obvious conclusion to draw is that Flintoff's own action (rather than the schedule) is the source of his current problem. Not sure what's going on with the others.... but periodic injuries will affect all players.... and statistically speaking.. the chances of the entire squad all being fit at once for almost an entire season (e.g. Ashes 2005) are not great - and the last three England tours of Australia (beset with problems) should not be seen as THAT exceptional. |

| Not a bad debut so far, quick 50, helping the English to a bright total, wonder if he takes any wickets
