I'm with Moss on this. Refreshing though it was to see the Aussies slip up for once I still wouldn't bet against them turning it round and giving us a pasting tomorrow. I assume if we beat Zim and Aus beat us then its all down to run rates?

I guess most non Aussies agree it would be refreshing to see someone else win something but I would rather it was because that team aspired to Australia's high standards rather than sheer apathy from the boys down under. I guess we'll see how bothered they are on Friday.

I've just had a look at the odds for Englands games. Might be relevant as I know only too well how rarely the bookies are wrong.

They make England 1/14 to beat Zim with Zim 6/1 to win. For the uninitiated that means if you fancy England you have to bet 14 quid to win 1 which I feel is extraordinary particularly in the light of last night.

For the game tommorow they have Aus as 4/9 favourites and England 13/8.

Oh for a time machine

From the introduction of twenty20 people criticised it as being anti-spinner, but having seen how it has developed some of the most effective players are spinners. CricInfo looked at the difference between Oz and Zim, and Zim's ability to take the pace off the ball with their medium pacers helped, whereas Zim were able to exploit the pace of Lee.

Cricinfo - Bubbly Zimbabwe, rusty Australia

Shakib al Hasan has shown how slow bowlers/spinners can be of use by taking 4-34 against West Indies.

West Indies scored 164-8 and Bangladesh are flying 77-2 off 8 overs.West Indies could be the first team eliminated.

Serves them right too!!!

I wonder if they will sack the captain again. I thought that was our problem.

Well, its debatable. we also saw that pace from Bond and Gillespie can be effective. 4-34 against Windies means little. Also, what has Vetoir and the other spinners done. The most economical bowling has been from the fast bowlers. I just feel that the big hitters will still be able to score at 12 an over off the spinners. It does not matter. Lets agree to disagree for now.

Windies flying out (deservedly so as their bowling and fielding has been so pathetic, one might ask why they even bothered to show up). Ashraful scored the fastest 50 in twenty20. Bangladesh require 47 off 49 now. Thats a walk in the park.

England are 51-3 from 5.3 against Zimbabwe. Prior's out for another nice 20. Wonder when they'll give up on this experiment? Time for Colly and KP to continue on from where they left off at Lord's.

We are heading for a decent score here 93-3 off 10 is a great platform to push on.

188-9 is a good score, should be enough with our bowling attack.

Twenty20 Specialist

Much has been made of England's decision to go for specialists in Twenty20...

Well if you look at the team against Zimbabwe and who played in the last ODI... Maddy came in for Bell (who could easily have played given the form he is in) and Schofield replaced Panesar, but the rest of the team was the same as the in the last ODI..

Maybe Snape, Kirtley and Solanki are specialist Drinks carriers?
