104/7 after the 16th over. That dropped catch from Uthappa did not prove that expensive, but Misbah-ul-Haq is still there. Not much else though.

Well, it was close in the end. Misbah-ul-Haq, with a bit of help from Harbhajan Singh and Joginder Sharma, almost pulled off a miracle. Great win for India though. I'll have a few beers tonight!

A shot of Malcolm Speed with a broad smile during the post-match celebrations says a lot about the future of 20/20 cricket. I liken it to speed chess where pressure can build very quickly and nerves of steel are required by all players and proactive captaincy is required as the advantage swings quickly from one team to the other.

20/20 is a great test of temperament and playing under extreme pressure. I'm sure this tournament has unearthed some future international cricketers. In this match, I was impressed with the temperament of G Gambhir, Imran Nazir, Umar Gul, RP Singh and Misbah-ul-Haq. I think these players have a great future and I look forward to seeing them develop in the longer forms of cricket.

If I can make a prediction it seems logical that a great tournament and a great final like this will prompt a lot of comparisons with ODIs and it's possible that the dominance that ODI previously enjoyed will be eroded by the much more exciting 20/20 cricket. Over time I think less ODIs will be played in favour of 20/20s and the format of ODI WC could be re-structured to reduce the length of that tournament.

Well played Pakistan and India for creating a bit of history. I look forward to seeing how this final effects international cricket in the future.

Great match, and well played India for holding their nerve in the end - Congratulations.

I agree with Mike - 50 over ODI cricket pales in comparison to this; most of the games in the T20 tournament have been exciting, nail-biting affairs, with many close finishes - can't ask for more really!

With Twenty20 you could add more teams in this form of the game as it won't add too much to length of a tournament and you could make the World Cup just for the established test nations and make that a little shorter and meaningful.

A copy of the format in Australia in 1992 would work i guess with each team playing each other and the top 4 going through to the semi final, just no naff rain rule this time.

Briliant match, abit dissapointed with the loss for Pakistan. congrats India. Evenly matched teams. either deserved to win. Both young captains are proving their respective boards right in appointing them.

For Pakistan, this was a great way to kick off the season especially after last year. Their new captain and coach are working brilliantly together. This is a turn for the positive for Pakistan cricket, especially with the consitution of the board also to be put in in 15 days. Hopefully it is a sign of better things to come.

For India, same a pakistan actually, new captain, brilliant job, after a dissappointing world cup, this summer has been excellent to them and they continue with their fine form.

again brilliant match.

I agree with you, Greg. The worst advertisement for cricket is televising lots of one-sided contests which is a major reason the ICC ODI WC 2007 was a failure in my eyes. I'd like to see the T20 expanded to 16 teams to include a few Association teams. I don't think every match in the group stage has to be televised. We don't want to see a lot of one-sided contests so only matches which have a good probability of producing a relatively even contest should be televised. In both the T20 and ODI format the real tournament starts with the Super 8 series. Every match in this series should be televised. Should the ODI WC format be reduced to 12 teams is a question the ICC will have to look at seriously. They must find a way to build excitement in that tournament. The 2007 event was a great yawn for many people.

How ironic that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been luke warm about 20/20 cricket and now see their team win the inaugural world cup. It was announced during the presentations that they were giving the team a million dollar bonus. I think the winning team receives $450,000 from the ICC, as well. But it seems the BCCI will be under pressure to rethink their stance on T20 and develop it further in their domestic cricket.

A brilliand finale to a superb tournament. i think the 20/20 world cup should replace the ICC champions trophy and be played on a 2 year basis. congrats to india. was an excellent game. the true winner of this tournament i believe was cricket in general, has attracted new fans and more interest. the game is looking to go forward with the BCCI and PCB announcing a new franchise competetion of 20/20 and a champions league involving the top 2 teams of engkand, australia, south africa, pakistan and india. good news for cricket all around
