New Zealand v England Twenty20

Well England look like getting a massive score thanks to Dimi smashing 4 successive 6's off Patel.

First thoughts are that Ryder has only got picked as he has eaten all his rivals,he makes Rob Key look like slimmer of the year. The young lad Southee has potential but this may be a step too far too quickly,he is only 19 and has plenty of time on his side.

I don't know what a good score will be but we look like getting around 190 as we are 159-6 with 3 overs left.

So we end up with 185-8

A decent score but you never know if it is enough in these games.

Some lovely clean hitting from Mascarenhas in there. Those four sixes off Jeets were all exceptional and almost carbon copies of one another. One big positive for England was that there were contributions all down the order at over a run a ball.

Harsh on Ryder there greg. He's just a bit of an old fashioned type of player. I reckon he may one day challenge Boony's record of units drunk from the Antipodes to London.

Good professional job done by England.Only Jacob Oram showed any resistance in what was a comfortable victory in the end,Dimi has to be man of the match.

Hopefully this is the start of a successful tour for England.

One thing England lacked compared to NZ was in the extras department. Far too many wides given away - mainly by Anderson, but also a couple from Sidebottom. Anderson in particular bowled a Harmison-esque delivery which would have been five wides if Prior or Jones was keeping.

Well, these Maoris are built big, aren't they? I thought Ryder actually played quite well, and New Zealand might have won if he'd bowled that second over instead of Patel. And if he's taken that running catch on the boundary, it would have rivalled Dwayne Leverock's as a spectacle.

Collingwood captained well. Mustard was pretty good 'keeping up to Mascaranas. Oram batted brilliantly, and I think Broad bowled the ball of the match to get Fulton. All in all, an excellent match that left me rubbing my head as to why some people have a problem with the format.

Good, solid performance. I would still criticise the batsmen for not going on to bigger scores. I get the feeling the Aussies, Indians or South Africans would have scored 200 plus against that attack. KP batted very well but ought to have gone on and Owais Shah threw it away too. Great hitting from Mascaranhas, superb to watch. Thought the bowlers generally did well. Good to see Sid getting the late swing that should really assist him for the next couple of months. Jimmy was as wayward as ever, surely a man of his international experience should be more consistent?

NE, I don't know if it's since my move to Nottingham that I've been less bothered about how much a keeper bats (certainly in comparison to learning to drive around Nuthall roundabout!), or if it's after seeing Matt Prior's circus behind the stumps, but I do now appreciate a good keeper even more than I used to. Obviously Mustard has to improve with his test batting and hang around just a bit more during limited-overs games, but I he's obviously a talented keeper and his enthusiasm for both keeping and batting is really refreshing. Added to that, his natural position and pace in ODIs is opening aggressively and there is no issue of him conforming to a role he doesn't know. I already noted instances in the CricInfo commentary (haven't had Sky for a while, so my analysis is more subjective but I do see highlights and live games whenever I can) where he saved byes and wides - maybe that will tempt Jimmy (and bless Sidebottom's frustrated soul!) to bowl straighter if he knows the keeper will pouch the edges!

What do you think of him?

No problems with the format just outside of an event like the commonwealth games (in an ideal world the olympics) when it could be used to expand the game globally I don't believe it has any place on the international arena. 20/20 has many plusses but actually giving a toss about the result isn't one of them and what's the point of international cricket if you don't really care whether your side wins or loses? It should have IMO remained the cashcow of the domestic game and not added to an already overcrowded international calendar to screw even more money.

(I appreciate there's a thread on the test forum where this mini moan is probably more suited )

His keeping hasn't been bad at all, some good glovework stood up to the stumps. He needed to be agile at times this morning too. I'd like to see him bat a little more conservatively as twenties aren't too much good to us but he's doing the right things.

Also, he doesn't have the arrogance that Prior (and Jones to a certain extent) has.
