CB Series Australia v SL 22 Feb MCG After having the Aussies at 4/55, the SL bowlers have been weak in allowing Aussies to be 4/136 with 10 overs to go. The SL batting has been fragile in this series and this pitch is extremely slow. Antying above 170 is beyond SL.

i thought SL did well to restrict the aussies to under 200 given the good partership between Hussey and Clark....i think SL has a good chance to win if they dont capitulate like they did before. but seems to me the situation is tailor-made for jayawardene and sangakarra with SL needing to play a waiting game conserving wickets. i would say that SL has a 7/10 chance of winning this one.

Australia were 80-4 from 30 overs and they are going to end up winning this one on D/L (when Sri Lanka are in exactly the same position). Pity really.

the infamous duckworth lewis system claims another victim in srilanka as both teams are equally poised at this stage. but u know what Milo if australia were batting second and were 80-4 with hussey and clark batting, i would give them 8/10 chance of making it compared to silva/dilshan batting even though dilshan is a fighter. i dont know how the drainage system in MCG is but its going to difficult getting those as well boundaries with the slow outfield with so much rain, frankly the crowd has left sensing its going to be hard with the way its raining!!!

Maybe DL can take into consideration averages of remaining batsmen yet to come to chase a total in order to make it more robust. Would have still given SL the defeat yesterday...maybe If batting order were reversed on a given day, and team while chasing loses 4 wkts and remaining 6 wkts are people who average in excess of 40, isnt it a fair assumption to make that they wud certainly achieve the target...wudnt they ?

it doesn't take into account such things like u said... tendlya, but to be honest who could predict stuff clark and hussey could infact get out on consecutive balls at 80-4 but silva and dillshan could play a blinder. i mean rain curtailed matches are unfair to both teams bating first or chasing as india found out in canberra and probably srilanka today. i dont think anyone else is able to suggest a better system into play as of now. maybe its better to have a retractable dome which can be closed when it rains, i know its slightly unfair but not nearly as unfair as duckworth lewis.

I think D/L is really very good. The major benefit from what we previously had was that in reduced totals, chasing teams always had the ten wickets at their disposal. Now, the target is ammended to reflect the ten wickets. I just feel that in some situations a no result is actually probably the best result. It was clear that Sangakkara's dismissal was due to clock watching (even though he was struggling), but the result was pretty unsatisactory given how much mileage was still left in the game.
