Ah.. another damn micky-mouse ODI game. Has anyone ever thought of organising some PROPER cricket to celebrate one of these milestones?

Should be a good challenge for the two sides though.. with serious pressure on India to put there recent failures behind them.. and a chance for Woolmer's lot to show that they realy do have a new sense of purpose and direction.

Pakistan has won the last three ODIs they played against India, in locations as diverse as Sri Lanka, the Netherlands and England. So Woolmer has a 100% record against India - not bad at all.

Agree that a one-off ODI is neither here nor there... and it would be a non-event had it been any two other teams...but with Pakistan & India, and one billion people watching...it somehow does become an event!

Comments on the squad:

They have kept faith with those who have performed well in the SL Test series, eg Imran Farhat, Younis Khan and Kamran Akmal (the new w/k), and have brought in the ususal one-day specialists, eg Shahid Afridi.

Though all 15 will travel to Calcutta, not all are fit - Inzi is still not training fully after his injury in the Second Test v SL, and middle-order batsman Aamer Bashir has been selected as cover for him.

Aamer Bashir is very unusual, in that he is being selected for his potentially his first cap at the ripe old age of 32, by which time most sub-continental cricketers are almost pensionable! He has been in excellent form the last couple of seasons for Multan, who he captains in Pakistan's first-class season.

Yasir Hameed has been dropped - Woolmer has explained this at length on his website, saying that the boy needs some time away from International cricket to clear his head, sort out what he should be doing to balls way outside the off stump, etc.. and after that, he performs in the domestic game and is in the right frame of mind, can get back on board in time for the Australia tour.

Very interesting stats Shekhar.

Interesting to see that Pakistan have consistently had the better of India in this regard - winning 63% of the 90 ODIs with a result, leaving India to win the other 37%.

Of the 14 ODIs played between these two teams in India, Pakistan have won 10 (71%) and India only 4.

Yeah, Pakistan has outclasses India everywhere in Cricket!! A real good record. If there is anything to boast about from India's perspective it will be all the World Cup Matches against Pakistan, nothing else!

Hello everyone!

Would be really nice, and special if we could win, a good precursor to Eid, which falls in Pakistan on Monday. Can't wait.

Cheers!

Good match preview on Cricinfo here.

The hype surrounding this match in the sub-continent is unbelievable - there always is a lot of interest and passion in a Pak v India game, but the fact that it is in Calcutta, with 100,000 people watching..and that it is for the Jubilee event of BCCI with lots of former greats present... and that both Eid and Diwali (Hindu celebration) this weekend .. make this a big match and a big celebration all around!

This is what I think

I thik that this game will be a cracker as thhese games between these two team usually are ..as per usual both teams will get big totals and either team will lose by either a wicket of less than 5 runs...

These two teams have such a great history !!! such great test and ODI'S..I for one will be rooting for sachin if he's playing and i'll enjoy seeing the pakistani pacers run in like lions on the hunt

I personally believe that this game will be thrown like all matches between these two team are..but that's an entirely different matter
