| I hope that as well Andy, apparently Shane Warne and Bob Woolmer too think Kaneria is a very promising young spinner. Interesting comments both made today at the end of the Sydney test Quote:

| Kaneria does indeed have a good temprement. Mark Nicholas was saying he found it really surprising he wasn't picked in the ODI squad. I thought about it sitting in my front of my tv. And the first though that crossed my mind was, "Crickey me! What a surprise, Mark Nicholas, for once might be talking some sense here....wait a sec, what am I saying, I'm actually agree with Mark Nicholas on something...@!/;!%^&...what ever is happening... In seriousness though, I wonder what's kept us from playing him more often in colours. I guess when he was tried in the past he was taken for a few runs, but I do remember him bowling well in one or two games in Sri Lanka, against NZ, it was a trination series... What do you think? I'm not quite sure. I'm not concerned about how he will do, I just think he will. Just that I think we need to consider if giving him more cricket when he already bowls twice as much as more as any of our other bowlers and also plays in England is needed...I'm not saying no...but just wondering...if there is any danger of him becoming the sort of titts Shoaib and Sami have become playing all the one-day cricket they do (gettinng injuried every now and then) then we might as well keep him safe for just the tests. I'm still very much in two minds about this. What do you think? Last edited by Zainub : 05-01-2005 at 01:02 PM. |

| I have no doubt that Kaneria would take wickets in ODI matches but he wouldn't get in the team ahead of Afridi, who is a very effective bowler in the shorter game. Not to mention a much better batsmen and excellent fielder. Pakistan is blessed with two excellent ODI spin all rounders in Afridi and Shoaib Malik (if his bowling action is passed) and it's hard to see how Kaneria would get in ahead of those two. Obviously he's a far superior test bowler and that's where he should concentrate his efforts. |

| I thought you would say so. And I can't disagree either. |

| Actually I still haven't recovered from watching Shahid Afridi bat properly for probably only the 2nd time in his career. It was surreal. |

| Afridi's contribution was splendidly out of character and he deserves a pat on the back. I would also give some credit to Asim Kamal for that, the way he was constantly talking to Afridi, backing him, and also taking the singles and changing the strike when Afridi seemed to be getting a rush of blood. Asim Kamal, though not very talented or technically gifted, is a very professional and gutsy cricketer, an un-Pakistani batsman.

| Kaneria has the skill... I wonder if he has the brains for leg spin. Only time will tell. Either way I'm fascinated by the guy.

| this guys isn't for ODI's. i never liked him although im starting to change my mind because i saw highlights of him taking clarke's wicket..... the face/stare he made to clarke as he walked back to the pavillion (was it clarke i cant remember) was hilarious and just made me laugh. shows his commitment to the game. unlike a certain long haired paceman |

| Ahhh yes he is a bit competative and somewhat over the top.
