Well, I wasn't! Looks as though Zainub has removed the post I was replying to - she made the valid point that there are a lot of US sports teams which are not named after animals.

aah right...I understand now, I thought it something a trifle more controversial than that though!

Just finished, 1-0 to United Down to 10 men, excellent defending, yet another clean sheet. Sorry, I am to happy to write more coherently at the moment!

You know what, I happier about Arsenal losing 1-0 than us winning 1-0.

Sorry, that was a mistake. Here's what I said or something on those lines anyway

The concept of animal names is quite popular in sports but the choice of names such as Dolphins or Zebras is comical. Usually it's slightly more predatory animals such as Eagles or Tigers unless it's an animal closely associated with the area or country.

Why else would England have lions on their shirts? The three lions have become synonymous with English football and cricket teams despite there being no lions within 5000 miles. You wouldn't expect England to put three badgers or three weasels on their shirts though would you?

I guess England has been using heraldic lions for a few years, Shaka - but it is an interesting point you raise: why lions? It's not quite the same as using the name of the animal as part of the name of the team, though.

I must say I quite like the idea of three badgers supine on the family coat of arms. Must write to the College of Heralds about that!

Rooney was my avatar here for a few weeks when we signed him - I like fat footy players - in fact I like most fat sportsmen. They are kind off cute don't you think? Sight Rob Key & Inzi as another example if you want.

To bring this back to the original discussion...

Domestic cricket in Pakistan is still not gettting enough TV coverage for my liking for it to appeal to the masses, even with the sponsirship deal in, not enough games are being show live on telly, may be there is a need for the PCB to sign a seprate contract with a sports channel

ps: don't think Rooney's over rated, he's a special talent, mobile phone throwing inccident was disgraceful

Even in the UK i dont think the domestic cricket gets that much coverage anyway. the best way to generate interest in the game is to show as much of it as you can. the best way is to show the domestic games aswell
