Pakistan announce squad

PCB's selection panel has announced the following squad for the first two tests:

Pakistan
1. Salman Butt
2. Shoaib Malik
3. Younis Khan(v-c)
4. Inzamam-ul-Haq (Captain)
5. Mohammad Yousuf
6. Asim Kamal
7. Shahid Afridi
8. Kamran Akmal(w)
9. Mohammad Sami
10. Danish Kaneria
11. Arshad Khan
12. Mushtaq Ahmed
13. Shoaib Akhtar
14. Naved-ul-Hasan
15. Shabbir Ahmed
16. Hasan Raza

Only surprise i think is the exclusion of Umar Gul, and inclusion of Shoaib Akhtar. Shoaib is not inform right now and Gul has not played for a while, so it would be better to give the younger guy a chance hwo has a chance of improvement rather than have a guy find his form in the test. Other that that its a good team.

I'm disappointed that Umar Gul isn't there: I was hearing his praises sung for the umpteenth time the other day. Phrases like "Pakistan's McGrath" seem commonplace and with his ability to move the ball either way in the air and off the seam (and extract steep bounce) he seems to me to hold greater promise than any of the other seamers.

I assume Navad wil actually play: hope so. The order of listing given above suggests a curious 1st XI though...

So the squad leaked by Geo TV yesterday was the real squad. I really feel now that they will play Shaoib Akthar. He bowled exactly 20 overs in the first day of the PAK XI vs Rest of Pakistan match just to show that he can do that, I guess.

I think it will be intresting to see what balance they come out with

Three spinners, two all-rounders and three seamers really leaves a lot of options open..

There are actually four seamers there FF, plus, three spinners and the two slow-bowling all-rounders, leaving only 6 specialist batsmen in a squad of 16.

i dont know if they really will use Mushtaq or not, but Shabbir will most definatly be in the XI. He is too good to leave out, shoaib may get the boot, and in my opinion rightly so. Umar gul has a chance also, since in the last series he played at homw he blew out the other teams batsman, if he regains that form then good-night team England.
