Congratulations Geoff Lawson

I think he is a great choice as coach.
A player who was with Australia during its low points after the retirements of Lillee, Marsh and Chappell. Who was in the team during the early days of its modern day resurgence under Allan Border. Australia cricket came back from a low ebb, I have no doubt Pakistan cricket will do so likewise.
I watch "Fox sports" over here to who Geoff is contracted to, and saw the special interview he gave to his co-hosts on Fox, he tackled the question of religion and cricket head on. "I expect to get together with the players shortly and nut out a consensus of what time and requirements they need for spirituality and what time and requirements they need for cricket".
The sooner Pakistan gets back to regularly hosting home tests/series in all venues the better.

Does Lawson have any background as a coach? How many teams has he (Successfully) coached? I believe the Sub-continent cricket boards are getting carried away with "foreign" coach...

In my opinion Pakistan are making the same mistake as the Indians did, when they appointed Greg Chappell who had no experience of coaching an international team.

Coached New South Wales
Just remember this time the incumbent is from the strongest cricket team in the world, not like Fletcher, Woolmer or Wight a weaker type side or limited international exposure.
Fair enough Greg Chappell was from the same team, but I think Geoff Lawson will take on board a lot more of Allan Borders team building plans rather than Greg Chappell's.
Greg Chappell as a captain had to manage an aging reunified team..which he did in my opinion ..so-so
Allan Border as a captain had to blaze a new frontier with new players..which in my opinion .. he did fantastically well.
I just think Greg Chappell got overawed by the hype of players such as Laxman, Ganguly, Tendulkar and Dravid and in doing so ignoring the need for structural change. A basic rule of thumb with most international teams is 1 player per year. I think Chappell ignored this basic principal tried to please to many Indian cricket districts with players already in the side and paid the ultimate price for "status quo".
I am sure Lawson is awake up to this and their will be structural change in the Pakistan cricket team, much the same as their was structural change to the Australian cricket side after Border took over the captaincy.
not all of his decisions will be popular, and he will stand on toes. But I have no doubt in the longer term 2-3 years or so the general consensus of the Pakistan cricket fans will be in favor of what he does.

I don't believe the fact he played a few Tests with AB means he will be a great coach. It'll be an interesting experiment. He's far more of a risk than Woolmer ever was.

AB took over in 85, Lawson retired in 90. So I presume I can stretch your "few" to mean fair few..
