Flintoff is a more complete all rounder IMO, Pollock is by far the better bowler.

And on recent form this suggests to be true: In the last 20 games Pollock has only scored 613 runs @ 24.52 with only 2 50s compared to Flintoff who has scored 1282 runs @ 42.73 with 2 100s and 11 50s.

Also their bowling averages in the last 20 test matches are not too dissimiliar: Pollock has 84 wickets @ 26.95 compared to Flintoff who has took 67 wickets @ 27.00.

So I would say there is some comparison between the two and if anything Flintoff has been the greater all round cricketer.

My point was that there would have been an uproar had someone suggested that Flintoff wasn't now an all-rounder just because he's had a bad run. His performance with the bat in this series has been as poor as Pollock's....but we'd quite rightly not question Flintoff's position as an all-rounder.

It was more of a defense of Pollock than a criticism of Flintoff.

But Pollock has been poor with the bat in the last 2 years now with only 2 half centuries in his last 20 test matches so its not a matter of judging him on just this test series.

Agreed Milo, I had took your post out of context, your post was fair comment.

Just go and look at Price Water House ratings. Pollock has regularly made the top ten in bowling. So did Botham. Has Flintoff ever made the top ten in batting or bowling? No! never.

Its not what you feel about a player its how he stands up. The influence of Pollock and Botham was much greater.

But you said there was no comparison between the Pollock and Flintoff when there is. As stats show, in the last 20 test matche,Flintoff has been the greater all round player and I reckon recent form is a good indicator in comparing two current players.

that is the last 20 matches..... pollock now has to concentrate more on bowling since it has until recently been really just him and Ntini. right NOW flintoff is at HIS PEAK. RIGHT NOW pollock is probably past his peak, so it is not a fair comparison.

you should compare them at their peak

Look at the stats for this series

Code:

Player name	runs scored	points	wickets	points	catches	points	stumping	points	runs conceded	points	ducks	points	apperances	points	total!	runs conceded per wicket	Runs scored per innings
Shaun Pollock 120	120	18	540	0	0	0	0	464	-92,8	2	-60	4	4	511	26	15
Andrew Flintoff	136	136	17	510	1	5	0	0	484	-96,8	1	-30	4	4	528	28	17
This shows that there isn't much beween them; indeed as runs go, Harmison has scored 90 and Flintoff 136. Not many betting people would have put only 50 runs between these players.
Indeed Ashley Giles has scored more runs than flintoff to date on this tour.

The only 'all rounder' to have prospered with the bat is Kallis
Code:

Player name runs scored points wickets points catches points stumping points runs conceded points ducks points apperances points total! runs conceded per wicket Runs scored per innings
Jacques Kallis 481 481 4 120 5 25 0 0 294 -58,8 2 -60 4 4 511 74 60
and his bowling has been poor.

Dravid absolutely right. There damn lies and statistics etc. You can take from any part of a players career and makeup what you want. But over a broad period there is no comparison.
Imran Khan and Hadlee also made the top ten regularly in bowling as I am sure Kapil Dev did.
And take note they made the top ten regularly. Flintoff has not made batting or bowling once never mind regularly.

exactly. Flintoff only started to become good in 2004 IMHO. pollock is a proven test match all-rounder.
