Gibbs Dropped.

Gibbs has been dropped. His batting form has always been like a rollercoaster ride. Either in great touch or will never survive 6/7 overs.
I take Devillers will now open, which I think will be a bad idea. Or maybe the selectors have thought of something else.

His only big performance that my short term memory will give me was his 175 in the huge run chase at The Wanderers. His test form has been poor, and elevating him to opener I think was the wrong move, it worked for him in the past but I think his batting has gone off the boil and he needs some time in First Class cricket to get some runs under his belt, and more importantly, confidence.

Boeta Dipenaar could open the innings, he does in ODI's and has looked pretty solid. AB DeViliers, for such a promising player had done well opening the innings but is known to whaft outside off stump early on. I would leave him lower down the order as he seems to play well with some runs already on the board.

Jacques Rudolph right down the order seems a daft choice, he's batting at six/seven and is just not thay kind of player. He should be higher up the order so he can play the type of innings he is most used to, sticking around and hitting the bad balls.

Boeta Dippenaar is not in the same class as Gibbs. OK, Gibbs has struggled over the past couple of years, and it may be that he needs some time out of the limelight to work on his game and work out what he needs to do. Dippenaar has never convinced me. He reminds me of those players you often come across in club cricket, who look nice and correct, and do sod all when it comes to scoring runs. Dippenaar doesn't seem to believe that he belongs in test cricket. He occasionally plays a good innings, and people talk about him kicking on, but then he goes back to being a rabbit in the headlights. I know many people think he's classy, but I've never seen it.

Dipenaar is the sort of player who has a long Test career when the Test side is not very good. He seems to have timed his run right. He may even score a few more runs for who knows he might get a century or two. That made me laugh about critics of the quota system you would of thought all this massive talent was being held back and than people like Dipenaar come on the scene. A bit of a let down he is not exactly what I had in mind.
Anyway he is probably the best we have got at the moment and I hope he does well but I won't be holding my breathe.
