Post SA Annual Cricket Awards - 18 May 2006

That time of the year again. There are a total of 30 awards, covering just about everything... Here are some of the awards and their nominees: (my favourites in bold)

Domestic Awards:

Standard Bank Cup Cricketer of the Year: Stephen Cook (Lions), Robin Petersen (Warriors), Johan van der Wath (Eagles)

Standard Bank Pro20 Cricketer of the Year: Cliffie Deacon (Eagles), AB de Villiers (Titans),Roger Telemachus(Eagles)

SuperSport Series Cricketer of the Year: Hashim Amla (Dolphins),Paul Harris (Titans), Dale Steyn (Titans)

Domestic Newcomer of the Year: Heino Kuhn (Titans), Saidi Mhlongo (Dolphins), Dominic Telo (Cape Cobras)

Domestic Players' Player of the Year: Garnett Kruger (Lions), Neil McKenzie (Lions), Johan van der Wath (Eagles)

(Okay, Telo a heart instead of head choice )

SA International Awards

Standard Bank ODI Cricketer of the Year: Mark Boucher, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Hall, Makhaya Ntini, Shaun Pollock, Graeme Smith

Castle Test Cricketer of the Year: Jacques Kallis, Makhaya Ntini, Ashwell Prince

SA Players' Player of the Year: Mark Boucher, Makhaya Ntini, Shaun Pollock

SuperSport Fans Cricketer of the Year: AB de Villiers, Makhaya Ntini, Shaun Pollock

Mutual & Federal SA Cricketer of the Year: Mark Boucher, Jacques Kallis, Makhaya Ntini, Shaun Pollock

Okay, so it looks like Makhaya hands down. He deserves it too. If only a batsman did with the bat what he did with the ball, SA would have done so much better last season.

Anyone else with your choices. Will have the results Friday morning....

Okay...one or two of my nominations were wrong (what's new )...Here's some of the winners...

Standard Bank Cup Cricketer of the Year: Stephen Cook

Pro 20 Cricketer of the Year: Roger Telemachus

SuperSport Series cricketer of the Year: Hashim Amla

Domestic Newcomer of the Year: Saidi Mhlongo

SA ODI Cricketer of the Year: Shaun Pollock

Test Cricketer of the Year: Makhaya Ntini

Newcomer of the Year: Johan van der Wath

SA Cricketer of the Year: Makhaya Ntini

Just one surprise for me really; Saidi Mhlongo. Maybe I just didn't keep my eye on him as much as I (obviously) should have. Happy Cook got the award. About time he gets some recognition....

*PS : Hashim Amla was not present to collect his award. He's on pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina.

What has up to now been a white sport its good to see Nitini and Amla getting the top awards.
Devillers must of been second in top SA crickter of the year. I thought he came back well after a rough time against the Aussies.
Unfortunately for too many it was a season to forget Smith, Nel, Boje, Pollock and the list goes on.
