West Indian billionaire Alan Stanton, is the sponsor of the local Pro20 (West Indian) series, and has already spent more than $8million on the Pro20 game, as well as upgrading the infrastructure on the islands.
Now, apparently in an attempt to wet the appetites of the West Indian cricket supporters for the CWC next year, he has arranged a once-off Pro20 game between the Proteas and a Windies XI. (he will select this team himself) This game will be played in Antigua in November, a week after the Champions Trophy final in India.
The prize-money for this game? Well, the winners take home a cool $5million (about R32.4million)
Should Smith and company be successful, they will receive 35% of the prize money. The remaining 65% will be used for the United Cricket Board of South Africa's development programme.
Even though the UCBSA will get the lion's share, the Proteas could each make about R500 000. And if the Proteas are NOT the winners, they will receive a match fee of about $100 000 (R649 000).
Not bad for about 3 hours work...
