Graeme Smith

If you are looking for a stat to back-up the view Smith is not that great a player, then this is it - "Smith has gone two years without scoring a hundred against a nation ranked in the top seven in the test rankings; he has never scored a century against Australia; and he has also yet to score one in the sub-continent."I know he scored those incredible 200s against England, but it is my feeling that he will be missed far more as a skipper than as a batsman against Sri Lanka. As a batsman in tests, he still has much to prove - especially against Australia.

Here's an interesting piece on Smith - http://extratime.corporalcarrot.co.u...rom=&ucat=211&

You are correct, as a batsmen he is not the greatest yet
but as a captain he is one of those ever improving skippers of the modern day
i am not sure about the Prince, hope he will do a descent job in srilanka
Any idea about Charl Langeveldt? i hought he was one the finest reverse swing bowler south africa ever produced in recent times. But couldn' see him regular in the squad?
And also what's the condition of kallis?

One reason Smith was chosen as capitain was he had no association with the Cronje era.
What you point out about his batting is true. After those double centuries against England he hasn't performed that well especially recently but we have got to stick with Smith as the alternatives are not there. I don't think there is anyone else who could signifcantly improve SA performanceswith the bat or as capitain.
