Wouldn't have known...

Ian Harvey got shown the door after one first class game and six months in South Africa. He was on big money as well. What is it with players who leave Victoria turning to poo?

I know this happened ages ago, but just found out tonight on the radio. Strange stuff, he was allegedly Western Province Boland's star recruit. Maybe the pitches didn't suit him, but he's had success in first class cricket in both Australia and England, so it's strange he didn't do well in South Africa.

Yes Paoli it was mutually decided between club & player that Ian's contract be terminated. Ian was on a 2 year contract and yes he was earning well too. I am a die hard Western Province supporter and I was excited when Harvey signed for our team. His performances were well below par and rumours were that Ian was not fully fit. Also the coach was disappointed with the fact that Harvey did not help the younger players much. as a result, his contract was cancelled. I was not disappointed. We at Wetern Province demand high standards of our overseas players. We had the Great Desmond Haynes play for us and I am proud to say that he taught Gibbs a lot. It was a pleasure watching Haynes open the batting here in the Cape. Look at the player Gibbs has turned out to become. We all have Haynes to thank for that.
