| Dolphins vs Lions What a game this was! After the Lions were 3 wickets down for only 56, it seemed like it was going to be one-way traffic for the Dolphins. But Vaughan van Jaarsveld (81 off 73) and Robin Peterson (86 off 105 ), both career best scores, had different plans. Their partnership of 138, got their team out of trouble, and helped the Lions to post a very decent 258/9 in 45 overs. Once again, drizzle played a part in this game. But not so much that the game was affected too much. It drizzled during the evening break, and then again early in the Dolphins' innings. Just one thing that was a bit icky. Peterson was run-out. All television replays (which could be seen by everyone in the ground, all the players on the field and television audienc)... And the 3rd umpire gave him NOT OUT! Now,how on earth does that happen?... Umpire need glasses? Pressed wrong button? Need to review the rules of the game? I don't know...But Mr Wadwalla gave Peterson not out...although he was out. Clearly. The reply from the Dolphins was steady. But they did lose wickets at some crucial times. Last over, they still needed 12 runs for a victory. And it was wicket-keeper Duncan Brown who did the honours. I must say, suddenly we seem to have a number of very good wicket-keeper batsmen on the local scene. Another century by Hashim Amla (102 off 109) was the backbone of the Dolphins innings once again. This I believe, is only the 10th time in the history of 45 overs cricket in SA that a batsman scored centuries back to back. Tomorrow (Friday), the Lions take on the Titans, and on Sunday the Eagles take on the Titans. But at this stage of the season, the Dolphins are on top of the log and looks the team to beat this year. |

| And to wrap things up... Quote:
The Cobras are the MTN Champions, after beating the Warriors (Eastern Cape Franchise) in the final. Here are some quick facts on this years Championship, Courtesy CSA: Highest team total: 295/8 Dolpins vs Titans Highest individual score: 160* Morne van Wyk (they have just GOT to give this guy a go at the top level...) Fastest Century: 89 balls by Hashim Amla (Yes, Hashim Amla. So, who says he can only play tests...) His average for the season is 43.00 Best Bowling figures: 5/32 Monde Zondeki (Cobras) at Newlands. But the best bowler is new Protea cap (well, that is if Steyn is not fit for the second test) Morne Morkel. Average of 19.00, and the most economical too at only 3.35 runs conceded per over. So, although the Eagles finished at the top of the log, the did not even make it to the final, and it was the VENOMOUS Cape Cobras who walked away with the laurels... Of course, the first class competition is proving a little harder for the Cape side... ![]() |

Yes, Ian Harvey had a 2-year contract with the Cobras, but after a VERY POOR first season, the Cobras opted to relieve him of that obligation... Last edited by Wanderer : 03-01-2007 at 07:18 AM. |

| It's a little silly that those who took Kolpak contracts in England have to play in their own country as overseas players, I know Martin van Jaarsveld for one is registered for Titans as a foreigner. As I say, a little silly.
